Following the contentious interview between President-elect Donald Trump and NBC New’s Kristin Welker, conservatives on social media have labeled the segment another example of how the mainstream media is biased against Trump and MAGA Republicans. However, some pointed out that as Americans have woken up to this reality, legacy media outlets are no longer “owning the narrative.”
The “Meet the Press” official X account posted about the interview, writing, “President-elect Donald Trump says he will not direct Pam Bondi or Kash Patel to go after President Joe Biden or Jack Smith, but it’s their decision.” The post also quoted Trump who maintained he would not direct his cabinet to pursue his political opponents.
Trump said, “I will say this, no, I’m not doing that unless I find something that I think is reasonable, but that’s not going to be my decision. That’s going to be Pam Bondi’s decision, and, to a different extent, Kash Patel, assuming they’re both there, and I think they’re both going to get approved. But I – I – you know, while you ask me that, what they’ve done to me with weaponization is a disgrace.”
Commenting underneath the post, one person claimed that Welker’s days are numbered in media. “Kristen, you had an opportunity to be a journalist with this interview. Instead, you chose to be an activist and push false narratives. And he exposed you for it. The days of you owning the narrative are over. The election should have taught you that. By all means continue. You destroy yourself, your credibility and MSM. Do you have a backup plan? Any other job skills? We the People will take it from here,” they wrote.
“You had the chance to sit down with probably the most recognizable (and polarizing) figure in the world.. for over an hour.. and you spent the entire time trying to bait him into sound bites that could be used in tweets and headlines by his political rivals. Think about that,” one person said. “How about asking him what the J6 comm or anyone else he wants prosecuted did that was illegal? How about pointing out that we’re not the only country with birthright citizenship? How about that we’re currently drilling for oil with output higher than any other country?” another person asked.
At one point during the interview, Welker asked Trump to concede the results of the 2020 presidential election, where the question backfired on the NBC host. “And now you’re going to be leading this country for the next four years. For the sake of unifying this country, will you concede the 2020 election and turn the page on that chapter?” she asked the president-elect.
Trump immediately said, “No. Why would I do that?” Trump further informed Welker that Joe Biden is still president so the questions would be more appropriate for him. “But let me just say, when you say the country is deeply divided, I’m not the President, Joe Biden’s the president.” “But you’re going to be the president,” Welker fired back.

“No,” Trump said, refusing to accept her point before asserting that Biden is largely responsible for the division. “I’m not the president. So when you say it’s deeply divided, I agree, but Biden is the president I’m not. And he has been a divider.” Substantiating his argument, Trump claimed that Biden’s move to allegedly weaponize the federal government against him completely backfired.
