According to recent reports, the Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Redskins, could be bringing back its former logo that resembled a chief of the Blackfeet tribe called White Calf. In light of this news, fans of the Washington, D.C., football team have celebrated the possible return of the once-cherished logo that defined one of the most popular NFL franchises.
Conservative consultant for Go Right Strategies Spencer Rogers shared the news with his followers on X, writing, “BREAKING: Redskins Logo is coming back.” Another person commented in celebration, “Down with the commies!!” Another user wondered, “What bout the name is that coming back with it.” However, some pointed out that the chances of the Commanders reviving the “Redskins” name were slim. “No. No chance of that,” one person opined.
Others in the comments section called for more sweeping changes across the NFL. “Now, all they have to do is stop playing the black national anthem. And have players stand for the national anthem which is for all people. I stopped watching in 2016. I was a long time Redskins fan in the 60s,” one person said.
Some pointed out that it is actually Native Americans who are calling for the return of the logo. “And notice who is driving this – Native Americans. Daines is a senator from Montana. Why would a Montana politician care about the Washington Redskins logo? Because his Native American constituents care about bringing the logo back,” one user wrote.
However, some expressed skepticism that the logo would return in the manner some commenters were hoping for. “No it’s not coming back. Not in the way you hope for. They “might” honor it in some way with some monument retrospective at the stadium. But the team will not be wearing their old uniforms if that’s what people are thinking is happening,” one person said.
During a recent interview with Fox News, Daines stated, “Now we were calling out leaders in a case of really woke gone wrong. The irony, they were canceling Native American culture as the DEI movement went way too far. Look, this is a this is honoring a Blackfeet chief who was born in Montana. He’s highly esteemed the Blackfeet tribe of Montana, their current chairman and the tribal council signed a letter in strong support to bring the local logo back.”
Daines confidently dispelled the notion that the logo was a racist caricature of a Native American, as some have argued when they called for the team to change its name. “It honors Indian country. So we’ve had good discussions with the NFL and with the Commanders,” the congressman said. Moreover, he explained that there are current discussions on reviving the logo.
“There’s good faith negotiations going forward that’s going to allow this logo to be used again, perhaps revenues going the foundation to help Native Americans and sport and so forth, making good progress, and based on the good faith negotiations, I made decision support of this bill yesterday the committee, I know that they have put a plaque up in Northwest stadium honoring Wetzel, and the longer, it great to see you back on the helmets again,” Daines told the network.
