Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently hosted a livestream to express their gratitude for the supporters and volunteers who assisted the campaign after its decisive defeat against President-elect Donald Trump. However, many of Harris’ supporters voiced overt pessimism following her comments, lamenting the state of the Democratic Party and Trump’s coming return.
Throughout the livestream, Harris and Walz offered lengthy comments emphasizing how thankful they were for the contributions toward their campaign. “And let me just say to everyone on this call, I am so grateful for you, and I’m so thankful to you. I’m thankful for your love of our country and your willingness to put the work into it,” Harris said in part.
She continued, “I’m thankful for the faith that you put in me and Governor Walz and our team, and I am thankful because I know your character is such that you’re not going to get knocked down, and you’re in this fight, and you’re in it for all the right reasons, and I know that about you.”
Despite the defeat, the vice president urged her supporters to continue fighting. “That work continues, the work must continue, of reminding ourselves that we have an ability to stay engaged in a way that will make a difference the work that you all did, it’s going to have lasting effect. Again, I’ll say, you know, the election didn’t turn out like we wanted it to, certainly not as we plan for it to, but understand that the work we put into it was about empowering people. That’s the spirit,” she said.
Continuing to encourage to encourage Democratic voters about the political “power” they supposedly have, she said, “I just have to remind you, don’t you ever let anybody take your power from you.” Harris added, “You have the same power that you did before November 5th and you have the same purpose that you did and you have the same ability to engage and inspire. So don’t ever let anybody or circumstance take your power from you.”
Investigative reporter for the Daily Wire Spencer Lindquist watched the livestream and documented some of the responses he saw to Harris’s and Walz’s remarks, and for some, the sentiment was quite negative. “Feeling even more defeated,” one person on the call said toward the end of her speech. “That was such a waste, why did they even call this?” another person stated. “Trump’s about to be a dictator. And our voices won’t matter,” another Harris supporter lamented, leaning into the commonly touted hostile rhetoric against Trump.
“You could have saved my hope and sent a thank you text. Geez, you people beg me for my time, my money, my hope,” another comment read. “I am gobsmacked at the thoughtlessness, but I shouldn’t be so naive.” Others seemed unwilling to accept the results of the election, where one person said, “Kamala I absolutely still see you taking office on 1/20,” one comment stated. Another disgruntled viewer said, “WE CAN’T HAVE ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF TRUMP!!! TAKE HIM DOWN NOW!!!!!”
