Walmart recently announced that it will scrap some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies following a palpable backlash against corporate wokeness in recent months. Conservative activist Robby Starbuck has led the charge in holding numerous companies accountable for their woke agendas, and he recently warned Walmart executives that he would expose the retail giant.
However, Starbuck indicated that he and Walmart’s leadership engaged in “productive conversations to find solutions” to the problem at hand. According to reports, Walmart agreed to take actions such as removing sexual and transgender products that targeted children and reconsidering grants given to pride events.
Although, Walmart maintained that the changes had been proposed for several years and were not the direct result of the conversation with Starbuck. The retail giant explained in a statement to FOX Business, that it is “willing to change alongside our associates and customers who represent all of America.” Joining various other companies, Walmart also announced that it would end its participation in the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, an annual survey intended to assess a business’s commitment to its LGBT employees.
The company continued, “We’ve been on a journey and know we aren’t perfect, but every decision comes from a place of wanting to foster a sense of belonging, to open doors to opportunities for all our associates, customers and suppliers and to be a Walmart for everyone.” Starbuck stated, “Walmart is the single largest employer in the United States. Removing wokeness from Walmart has both downstream effects on suppliers and sets the tone for corporate America.”
“Changing normal operating policy at a nearly $1 trillion company is a gargantuan feat that many have tried to achieve but no one until now has actually been able to get done,” he added. “It speaks to the strength and scale of our movement to eliminate wokeness from society and how effective I’ve been as a megaphone for the concerns of your average consumer.” Starbuck vowed, “I won’t stop until wokeness is a relic of the past.”
The American Tribune previously reported on Starbuck’s initiative to expose Harley Davidson for its corporate wokeness, where he called out CEO Jochen Zeitz. “Jochen Zeitz is an unusual choice to lead Harley-Davidson. He’s German, he’s an outspoken climate activist,” Starbuck said. “In Harley’s so-called sustainability report, they also say that their 1800 global employees completed a virtual training to learn what an ally is to the LGBTQ+ community, and that employees also participated in an engaging and interactive learning session that allowed them to explore social identities, both seen and unseen.”
