Incoming border czar Tom Homan recently sounded off on liberal mayors who have vowed to resist the efforts of the Trump administration in carrying out deportations of illegal immigrants. Homan outright stated that he would be willing to put the mayor of Denver, Colorado, “in jail” if he impeded federal officials from removing illegal aliens from the community.
Homan made the comments while speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The host intiated the conversation, saying, “I heard this mayor out there in in Colorado. I want to get your reaction to it. I want you to be clear about what jurisdiction the federal government or state and local governments, and if you’re a sanctuary state or city, are you breaking the law?”
Homan replied, “You’re absolutely breaking the law. All he has to do is look at Arizona versus U.S. you’ll see that he’s breaking law. But look me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing, he’s willing to go in jail.” The former immigration official explained that he is more than willing to put the mayor in jail, pointing out the law that would authorize the punishment.
“I’m willing to put him in jail because there’s a statute of his title eight in the United States, code 1324, triple i,” Homan continued, “What it says is it’s a felony if you knowingly harbor and conceal from immigration authorities, there’s also a felony to impede a federal law enforcement officer, so if he doesn’t want to help that’s fine, he can get the hell out of the way, but we’re going to go do the job.”
Homan emphasized that the American people gave President-elect Donald Trump a mandate to return to the White House and follow through on his promises to fix critical issues such as the rampant illegal immigration that has occurred under the Biden-Harris administration, where millions have poured over the southern border with Mexico.
“President Trump has a mandate for American people. We’ve got to secure this country,” he said. “We got to save American lives. And I find it shocking any mayor of a city would say, President Trump’s been clear. We want to concentrate on public safety threats and safety threats and national security threats. I find it hard to believe that any mayor or governor would say they don’t want public safety threats removed from their neighborhoods.”
Homan asserted that, regardless of what local leadership seeks to accomplish in Colorado, the federal government will step in to carry out its mission. “I mean, I don’t know what hell is going on in Denver, but we’re going to go fix it. If you don’t want to fix it, if you don’t want to protect his communities, President Trump and ICE will,” he said.

The strong comments from Homan sparked a reaction from users on social media who echoed similar sentiment about local and regional politicians pushing back on Trump. “The mayors and governors who break federal law at the taxpayers’ expense belong in jail. Immigration is costing Americans billions, and the American people voted for Trump to deal with these issues. If you don’t want to listen, you are committing a crime,” one person said.
