Earlier this year, liberal Fox News host Jessica Tarlov was forced to issue a retraction live on air regarding a statement she made about Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bony Bobulinksi, who testified against the first son. Tarlov had claimed during a segment that a Trump Super Pac was paying Bobunlinski’s legal fees.
“Tony Bobulinski’s lawyers’ fees have been paid by a Trump Super PAC that’s as recent as January,” Tarlov said to a panel on “The Five.” She continued, “Do you think that a guy who’s invested in how much better off he wants the United States to be and really getting to the bottom of this would be taking money from the guy who extorted the Ukrainians to get dirt on the Bidens and we should talk about Lev Parnas who’s the democratic witness.”
However, Tarlov was forced to issue a live retraction of her statement in a follow-up segment after it was proven that she was incorrect in her statement about Bobulisnki’s legal fees. “I would like to clarify a comment I made yesterday during our discussion of Tony Bobulinski appearance at the congressional hearing,” she said.
Tarlov went on, “During exchange with my colleagues about the hearing, I said that Mr. Bobulinski lawyers fees have been paid by a Trump Super Pac as recently as January. What was actually said during the hearing was that the law firm representing Mr. Bobulinski was paid by a Trump PAC. I have seen no indication those payments were made in connection with Mr. Bobulisnki’s legal fees and he denies that they were.”
Users on social media reacted to Tarlov’s retraction, with one person describing the fact-check of her false statement as “top tier.” Another person claimed that this isn’t the first time Tarlov has been forced to issue a retraction, stating, “But here is my problem. This is not the first time Jessica Tarlov has had to issue a retraction. And it’s ALWAYS about President Trump. It’s getting old.”
Another user in the comments section summarized the issue, writing, “Tony Bobulinski’s attorney, Jesse R. Binnall, is demanding Fox News and Jessica Tarlov issue an on-air retraction today for Tarlov’s defamatory lie of Bobulinski on yesterday’s “The Five,” where Tarlov claimed Trump’s Super PAC is paying Bobulinski’s legal fees.
The comment continued, “”This is unequivocally false and defamatory,” writes Binnall to Jeff Taylor, Fox News’ Executive Vice President and General Counsel. “Indeed, no Trump Super PAC has ever paid Mr. Bobulinski’s legal fees. In fact, Mr. Bobulinski has paid over $500,000, in legal fees to numerous lawyers in law firms out of his own pocket since 2020. We write to demand an immediate retraction, on air, today, of this maliciously blatant lie. Let me be perfectly clear. We will immediately file a defamation lawsuit against Fox, and Ms. Tarlov, if this lie is not retracted by Ms. Tarlov on air today, March 21, 2024.””
