Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov is facing backlash from conservatives on the internet after she made a false claim about President-elect Donald Trump’s stellar performance in the 2024 presidential election. Tarlov, who has never been popular among conservatives as the dissenting liberal opinion on “The Five,” incorrectly claimed that Trump did not secure the popular vote.
During a recent segment of “The Five,” Tarlov disputed the magnitude of the Trump victory that Republicans have celebrated since election night. “One thing though, that I…I’m not saying that there isn’t a lot of work to do, because there absolutely is, for people who are talking about this, is if we got completely decimated, the numbers don’t bear that out,” she said.
Claiming Trump had not won the popular vote, Tarlov added, “So Trump didn’t cross fifty percent of the popular vote, so the majority of Americans didn’t vote for him, and Senate democrats performed really well. so people like Ruben, Diego. Tammy Baldwin, Jackie Rosen and Nevada they ran seven eight points ahead of Kamala Harris, which is what was predicted, and that does show that this norm coalition can’t exist, it was that Trump had a special sauce. At the top of the ticket for a lot of people.”
Following this claim, Tarlov received a wave of fact-checks on the internet. As of writing this article, the Associated Press reported that Trump had 50 percent of the raw vote total compared to Harris’ 48.3 percent. Users on social media lashed out at Tarlov’s claim, with some even calling for her termination from Fox News over the remarks.
The popular conservative X account Donald J. Trump News sparked a lively dialogue among Republicans on X, writing, “Breaking News: Jessica Tarlov says “Trump never reached 50% of the popular vote, meaning the majority of Americans did not vote for him.” What’s your message to her?” One person wrote,”Please someone get a replacement for her on Fox.” Another user similarly said, “Get rid of her please.”
Commenting on the magnitude of Trump’s decisive victory, one user responded to Tarlov, “So insignificant – he got all the swing states, he had an incredible amount of electoral votes, and he slayed your beloved Harris and she fooled all her fans, campaign, donors, and the MSM. U & They all deluded themselves into thinking she would win. If you saw any of his rallies, the last couple of weeks you would know that he was going to win.”
However, others noted that there was some truth to Tarlov’s argument, pointing out that Trump’s decisive lead in the popular vote has been declining as some liberal states, such as California, take weeks to count their votes. “She is partially right. After the election, Trump had well over 50% of the popular votes. But some states are still counting votes weeks after the election and as more mystery votes surface, Trump’s lead is dwindling. The real question is where are these votes coming from, why are they still being counted, and why are most of them for democrats?” one person commented.
