Conservatives on social media have praised Trump’s comedic delivery after footage of the president-elect resurfaced showing him highlighting the difficulty of securing sufficient support from House Republicans to become speaker. While speaking to a group of reporters in New Hampshire, commentators have claimed that Trump’s delivery resembled that of the late comedian Norm MacDonald.
“That four threshold is very tough. It’s a very tough thing, no matter who it is,” Trump said. Illustrating how difficult winning the speakership would be, Trump said, “There’s only one person that can do it all the way. Do you know who that is? Jesus Christ.” He continued, “If Jesus came down and said, ‘I want to be Speaker,’ he would do it. Other than that, I haven’t seen, I haven’t seen anybody that can guarantee it.”
Sharing the clip the popular X account Pericles ‘Perry’ Abbasi said, “Among his other talents, Donald Trump can nail a perfect Norm Macdonald joke delivery.” Another user in the comments section suggested that, if Norm MacDonald were still alive today, he would be a Trump supporter. “There is no doubt in my mind Norm was MAGA. If he were alive today, he would be ultra MAGA,” they said.
Following the harrowing assassination attempt in July, that very nearly claimed Trump’s life grazing his ear, the former president has become much more serious when talking about God and his personal faith. Speaking about the attempt on his life to Greg Gutfeld, Trump said, “And fortunately, so far, I’ve been very lucky, or something is greater than all of us up there, maybe watching over us.”
Gutfeld asked Trump, “You bring up God, and you’ve almost been killed twice. Do you think more about your own mortality and what happens after you go on?” Trump replied, “Not about mortality, but I do think more about God, because, okay, Butler was really the greatest of all American if I’m not looking over there and I mean a full turn exactly 90 degrees, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
Explaining what he was thinking in the moment, Trump added, “I knew immediately that it was a bullet. I knew immediately that it was at the year. And because it, you know, it hit very hard, but hit the year. And I also heard people shout, bullets, bullets, you know, get down. Get down. Because I, you know, I moved down pretty nicely, pretty quickly, and we had bullets flying right over my head after I went down.”

Further commenting on his miraculous survival, Trump said, “So I’m glad I went down. The bigger miracle was that I was looking in the exact direction of the shooter, and so it hit, it hit me at an angle that was far less destructive than any other angle. So that was the miracle that was for those.” He emphasized, “For those people who don’t believe in God, I think we got to all start thinking about that, you have to. You know, I’m a believer. Now, I’m more of a believer, I think, and a lot of people have said that to be a of great people have said that to me, actually.”
