Former U.S. soccer star Mega Rapinoe, who was been outspoken in her woke political beliefs, recently reacted to President-elect Donald Trump’s massive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. The women’s soccer icon explained that she is “afraid” for her “trans friends” as Trump prepares to return to the White House in a matter of weeks.
Rapinoe delivered the alarming remarks during an appearance earlier this week on the A Touch More podcast, slamming Trump as “hateful.” She stated, “I feel overwhelmed by the reality that is going to be a Trump presidency, which we have seen before – so I don’t feel like I’m saying anything new – but the reality where like anything crazy could happen any day. I think that is really overwhelming.”
While Rapinoe noted she wasn’t as much concerned for her own safety, she expressed deep concern for her friends in the transgender community. “I think that I feel, not so much personally scared, because I think that we live in very progressive places, we’re unbelievably privileged in our place in the world and life and financially and all of these things, but I think that fear extends to just people in general that will be really affected,” she stated.
She added, “I’m thinking of all my trans friends and people that I know and trans kids.” Rapinoe also bemoaned Trump’s agenda around deporting illegal immigrants, stating, “I’m thinking about the potential of mass deportations if that is going to happen, and just like the general chaos that’s going to be sown is really overwhelming.”
Continuing, Rapinoe seemed to compare the current political attitudes of Republicans to America’s past of “slavery” and “inequality.” She said, “To see such a hateful message really resonate with such a large percentage of the electorate – I think that’s just hard to look at. I think we always know that it’s there. Let’s not be naive about this – this is America, and we were founded on slavery and inequality.”
Now that the election has come to a conclusion, many Democrats are conceding that the Democratic Party did not deliver for voters, as Trump swept through all the swing states and took the popular vote. Many have blasted the Harris campaign for refusing to sufficiently address real issues the country faces, such as the economy and illegal immigration.
“Obviously, the Democratic Party missed the mark on some things, and we need to look at that really honestly in the coming months, weeks, and years to try to have this message and this party resonate with more people than is resonating with the other side, which did not happen this time.,” she said.
The American Tribune previously reported on comments from Trump directed at Rapinoe after the U.S. women’s soccer team lost to Sweden in the World Cup last year. “The “shocking and totally unexpected” loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to the our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden. Many of our players were openly hostile to America – No other country behaved in such a manner, or even close. WOKE EQUALS FAILURE. Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA,” Trump said.
