Liberal actress Rachel Zegler recently walked back her controversial post-election statement voicing her frustration with President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory against Vice President Kamala Harris. After Zegler wished that Trump supporters “never know peace,” the actress issued a follow-up statement explaining that she let her emotions get the better.
“I would like to sincerely apologize for the election post I shared on my Instagram last week,” Zegler wrote, referencing her initial reaction to the election. “I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse,” she added.
In Zegler’s previous post, she began by lamenting what the next four years might look like, worrying about the future of abortion. “I find myself speechless in the midst of this. Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in,” she wrote. “Leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in. Leaning us towards a world that will force her to have a baby she doesn’t want. Leaning us towards a world that is fearful.”
She continued, “I shouldn’t be this shocked. But I am. I am heartbroken for my friends who awoke fear this morning. And I am here with you. To cry, to yell, to hug. To wax poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward.” Zegler claimed that the election should not have resulted in the landslide victory for Trump. “This loss should not have been. And it certainly should not have been by so many votes,” she wrote.
Concluding her statement, Zegler also wrote, “I echo Ethel Cain’s statement more than anything. May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.” The actress also called for her followers to cease using X, owned by billionaire Trump supporter Elon Musk. In a profane expression of frustration, Zegler wrote, “F*** Trump.”
The statement from Ethel Cain that Zegler referenced, reads, “I must say, if you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you.” The musical artist, whose real name is Hayden Silas Anhedönia, continued, “Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.”
“An embarrassingly large chunk of white men are just straight up nazis these days as a way to dissociate from the rest of the carnage around them, even if they’re broke and uneducated and from an impoverished background themselves,” Cain added. “They’ll vote for and align themselves with anything for a taste of power and control that makes them feel a little less helpless. The same goes for minorities. They’ll punch down if they think it’ll get them somewhere, even if in reality they’re punching sideways.”
