According to recent reports, the left-leaning news outlet CNN is set to fire hundreds of employees, including some of the network’s top star personalities. As CNN is contending with poor ratings in the wake of the election, it is reportedly looking to reevaluate its strategy. While it has not been confirmed who is set to be fired, speculation is that it could include some of its highly paid, on-air news figures.
The famous X account Wall Street Silver reported on the news, writing, “CNN ‘will ax top stars in layoffs that’ll see hundreds fired’. CNN is reportedly set to fire some of its top talent in a round of post-election layoffs. The rumblings, first reported by Puck News, come as high-paid personalities like Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer were reportedly recently denied raises.”
The post continued, highlighting the lucrative salaries many of the network’s broadcasters take home. “The two already boast salaries of $7million and $3million, while stars like Anderson Cooper take home an annual $20million. Kaitlan Collins and Erin Burnett also command inflated earnings – $3million and $6million apiece, respectively.” Wall Street Silver echoed reports that some of the “on-air talent” will likely be impacted. “Insiders told Puck the new round of firings will likely see on-air talent like them affected, as the network’s new CEO looks to free up finances amid waning ratings.”
Users on social media have subsequently reacted to the news, demonstrating opposition to the network over its alleged bias. “The public has voted that those individuals are not valued for their ….. talent. May CNN fire them and sink anyway since they’ve already shown the public the cannot be trusted. Trust takes decades to build and seconds to lose,” one person said.
Others expressed similar sentiments, distrusting the network’s reporting. “If I were @CNN, I’d refocus on becoming a source of reliable, factual information delivered in a non-biased manner. It’s not just the on-air personalities problem. It’s their entire news-aggregation apparatus that needs an overhaul. Less ideology & partisanship, more substance!” another person suggested.
“They had a good run during the election but with everyone seeing their blatantly biased reporting more and more people have been driven to alternative media and specifically 𝕏 over the past six months and that’s only going to further accelerate now,” another user said.
“Oh, CNN’s about to clean house? Talk about “draining the swamp!” Looks like all those multimillion-dollar salaries didn’t buy ratings, and now it’s time to lay off the “top talent.” Jake Tapper, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper seems like CNN’s idea of trimming the fat is cutting out the overpaid anchors who’ve been busy reading their scripts instead of… you know, actually informing the public,” one person commented.
Calling out Anderson Cooper’s exorbitant compensation, the same user continued, “But hey, with $20 million a year, I guess Cooper can finally take a “well-deserved” break. Just think about how many times he could’ve bought a house with that kind of cash… too bad it wasn’t spent on better content. Maybe next time, they’ll learn: it’s not about the salary, it’s about the credibility!”
