After former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told The New York Times in a Thursday, November 7, interview that the Democrats could have won the presidential election had President Biden dropped out earlier, “The View” co-host Ana Navarro chimed in and sounded off, attacking Pelosi for the comment.
Pelosi, as background, said in an NYT interview, “Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race. The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.” She continued, “And as I say, Kamala may have, I think she would have done well in that and been stronger going forward. But we don’t know that. That didn’t happen. We live with what happened. And because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time. If it had been much earlier, it would have been different.”
Sounding off over that on the Monday, November 11, broadcast of ABC’s “The View,” Navarro lost it and accused former House Speaker Pelosi of being “nasty” and “unseemly” in her attempt to shift blame away from herself and other Democrats and foist it on the elderly president.
Navarro said, making a facile argument about why saying negative things is apparently bad, citing kindergarten teachers for her argument, “[Pelosi] must’ve been absent the day in kindergarten where they did the lesson, if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all.”
Continuing, she started saying negative things about Pelosi, snapping that Pelosi’s NYT interview comments about what went wrong were all manner of bad things. She said, “I mean, why Nancy? Why? I find this so unproductive, so nasty, so unnecessary. It’s like, she wants to make sure that people know it wasn’t her.”
Then, paraphrasing Pelosi’s comments to NYT journalist Lulu Garcia-Navarro, the host of “The Interview,” the show that interviewed Pelosi, Navarro said, “She has no blame in this, ‘I said Biden should’ve gotten out earlier, I said there should’ve been a primary. Don’t blame me.’”
She continued, further attacking what Pelosi said, “I think it’s really unseemly and you know, frankly, it’s done with. Right. These criticisms against Biden, look, we will never know if the result would’ve been different if Biden stepped off earlier, we will never know if the results would’ve been different if he had stayed in, we will never know if the results would’ve been different if there had been an open primary. What we do know is that Biden is there for the next two-and-a-half months.” Watch her here:
Also sounding off on the issue was co-host Sunny Hostin, who went wild snapping about the “blame game” currently going on inside the Democratic Party. She said, “What I don’t like is this finger pointing blame game that’s going on in the Democratic Party. And I’ve said this before, why isn’t the conversation about how Republicans can get behind a convicted felon?”
Continuing and attacking Trump, she said, “Why Republicans are behind this crass, I don’t even have the words for it, you know, this twice impeached former president. I think when Republicans lost in 2020, that kind of introspection didn’t occur. In fact, they refused to concede the election, they were election deniers in large part and then doubled down on this grievance politics, wedge issues, and it turned out just fine for them, it turned out just fine because they re-elected this person. So to me, I just feel like the Democrats don’t need to do this — attack.”
