Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) lost her congressional race earlier this summer to Democratic challenger Wesley Bell. This is the second time a far-left congressional “Squad” member has lost their seat, perhaps indicative of the broader political realignment that occurred in the 2024 election, where Americans are rejecting the radical agenda much of the Democratic Party has touted.
According to reports, Bell, who serves as the St. Louis County prosecutor, held a substantial lead over Bush, earning almost 55 percent of the vote, compared to Bush’s 41.8 percent. Furthermore, the Associated Press called the U.S. House for Missouri District 1 for Bell early yesterday, who garnered well over 75 percent of the vote, leaving other challengers far behind.
After losing her primary race in August, recently after fellow “Squad” member Jamaal Bowman also lost his primary, The American Tribune reported on comments from Cori Bush sounding off on the loss to Bell. “Pulling me away from my position as Congresswoman, all you did was take some of the strings off,” she said. Continuing, she then shouted several times, “Let’s be clear!” before adding “Let’s talk about what it really is.”
Bush suggested that her opponents need to be “afraid” because she no longer has “strings” attached with the risk of losing her job. “Because see now I don’t have to worry about some strings that I have attached that as much as I love my job but all they did was radicalize me, so now they need to be afraid,” according to the former “Squad” member.
Continuing, Bush said, “See, now they about to see this other Cori, this other side, because let me say this: I just grew up a whole lot more over the last few weeks, I just grew up a whole different way, and so what they are about to get.” Calling out the Israel lobby, presumably over her pro-Palestine convictions, she said, “AIPAC, I’m coming to tear your kingdom down.”
Bush further noted that “corporations” should be put on “notice” after her loss, maintaining that she would still be going after them. “And let me put all of these corporations on notice: I’m coming after you too. But I’m not coming by myself. I’m coming with all the people that’s in here, that’s doing the work,” she said.
Bush continued, cautioning that nobody wants to see her become increasingly radicalized, which she is apparently at risk of doing. “What you didn’t want to do was allow me to get radicalized even more, because this is the thing: I ain’t scared. I don’t fear you! I don’t fear you!” she said, illustrating that she now lacks reservations.
Calling out her successful challenger and fellow Democrat, Wesley Bell, she continued, “The new member of Congress who will be taking over in January, you know, right before his trial starts.” Stopping, she said, “I’m sorry,” she said before stating, “We need to build the community back, because what just happened helped to rip our community apart.”
