Following former President Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, in which he has won the popular vote and the electoral college by a landslide, rapper Cardi B sounded off on supporters of the soon-to-be 47th president. The artist, who came out and endorsed Harris ahead of the election, suggested some states “be getting hurricanes” after nearly all of the Appalachian states in the southeast voted for Trump.
Cardi B’s crass remarks were presumably directed at states such as North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida, all of which have faced unimaginable devastation from Hurricane Helene over the past couple of months. All of the states voted for Trump by substantial margins. In a now-deleted video that was posted to her X account, the rapper said, “This is why some of y’all be getting hurricanes.”
Conservatives on social media reacted with outrage, considering how so many Americans lost everything, including their lives, over the hurricane. The popular conservative X account, Travis_4_Trump, wrote, “Rapper Cardi B says southern states deserved the hurricanes that killed over 300 Americans after they voted for Donald Trump. Why is she allowed to say awful things like this without the media going crazy?”
One user commented, “This election has proven yet again that the legacy media and celebs mean nothing in the context of what people really want. They live in their own bubble, far removed from the reality of everyday lives of the average citizen.” Plenty of other users echoed this sentiment pointing out how many leftist celebrities are out of touch with reality.
“One of the most satisfying aspects of the election results was the complete and total rejection by the electorate of the Hollywood & Celebrity endorsements that came out at the last minute. Nobody cares what those people think,” another person said, highlighting how many Americans have woken up and see past the guise the media and Hollywood propagate.
As Cardi B watched the election results pour in throughout the night, she voiced her continually voiced her concern as a Trump victory became increasingly obvious. At one point she wrote on X, “We need a Hail Mary.” In other comments on her social media, she praised Kamala Harris’ campaign despite the impending loss. “I just hope she knows no matter what happens tonight, millions of people are proud of her,” she said, as Trump was positioned to win the Electoral College. “Women around the world are proud of her. Women of color are proud of her.”
Days before the election Cardi B appeared at a Kamala Harris campaign event in which she gave a speech endorsing the vice president. “Kamala recognized that this country is at risk, that the economy needs to get stronger, that the cost of food and the cost of living is too high, it’s even too high for me. I believe her, when she stays under her buying eggs and milk won’t break the bank because she’s going to pass a ban on price gouging on groceries. And she told me that in my face. So she better not lie to me in my face” the rapper said.
