Following former President Trump’s monumental victory in the 2024 presidential election, which many commentators have described as the greatest political comeback in American history, the mainstream media has had a collective meltdown. Among those reeling from Vice President Kamala Harris’s defeat is ABC’s “The View,” which tried to find the silver lining in the loss.
Despite Harris losing the election, co-host Whoopi Goldberg applauded her campaign, which was organized in “two months” after the vice president stepped up to lead the Democratic ticket in a controversial move after President Biden withdrew from the race in July. “Think about this. She did this in two months,” Goldberg said. She further emphasized, “She did this in two months.”
Goldberg continued, “You know, everybody can always say, ‘oh, she should have done this. She should have done this.’ She said she did what she did.” The co-host suggested that Harris was “everywhere” ahead of the election, insinuating she led a strong campaign. “She was everywhere. She talked to everybody, and people didn’t come out. I don’t know why and it doesn’t even matter,” Goldberg added.
“He’s now the president I’m still not gonna say his name,” she said, appearing to slight Donald Trump after his landslide victory. Conservative users on social media have reacted to the clip, calling out “The View” and the broader mainstream media. Sharing the clip from the segment, Townhall wrote, “Whoopi Goldberg trying to find the bright side: “She did this in two months!” (after Democrats kicked out Biden and installed Kamala as the nominee.)”
Other users voiced criticism toward the legacy media, which many have accused of misleading the general public and serving as a propaganda arm for the Democratic Party. “I hope this View fades out of my memory and off the air for good,” one person commented on X. They further suggested that those on the show “provide no public value and have been instrumental in gaslighting the American viewing public. An exorcism of legacy media needs to occur for the damage caused to the American Psyche. Free speech not lies, gaslighting and hate speech.”
Another user rebuked Goldberg’s opinion, pointing out that Harris was in the White House for four years and had every opportunity to prove herself. “#WhoopiGoldberg she had four years to be a great vice president and to show America how things got done. So don’t say she only had two months. Maybe if her and Biden would’ve done more for America this might be a different story. Quit with the excuses,” they wrote.
Others highlighted how the Harris campaign’s non-substantive, hostile rhetoric was a losing strategy. “Kamala lost not only the White House but both houses of Congress as well. Quite an accomplishment! Who knew going negative, having ZERO policy details, hiding from the media, and accusing half the country of being Nazis wasn’t a winning strategy?,” one person commented.
