During his lengthy interview on comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience,” United States Senator from Ohio and 2024 Republican presidential nominee JD Vance spoke out about a subject of interest to Rogan fans and one that ended up tying in with his wife’s dietary practices: fake meat and vegetarianism.
Usha Vance, as background, is an Indian-American and, as part of her heritage, is a vegetarian. Vance is not, but explained trying to cook for her when they first started dating, and spoke to Rogan about a better alternative to highly processed foods for vegetarians.
Kicking things off, the vice presidential nominee commented on the vegetarian diet his wife eats, telling Rogan, “My wife is Indian-American, and the vegetarian food she makes is exceptional.” Slamming fake meat, he said, “For any vegetarian out there, indulge in paneer, rice, and chickpeas. Skip the nasty fake meat.”
Rogan agreed with Sen. Vance, slamming the heavily processed plant-based meats as “highly processed garbage,” and noting that there are health and environmental concerns about such foods. Rogan added, “If you want to embrace a vegetarian lifestyle, turn to Indian cuisine. It offers wonderful vegetarian options.”
At that point, Sen. Vance, who described himself as a “meat and potatoes guy” from the American Midwest, told Rogan about his experience trying to make a vegetarian meal for a wife and how his clueless attempts led to the production of something that was, as he freely admitted, “disgusting.”
The senator said, “When I first started dating my wife I had no idea what vegetarians ate. I wanted to make her dinner to impress her. I made her Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and put raw broccoli on top of it, sprinkled ranch dressing on it, baked it, and that was my vegetarian pizza.” He admitted that the result of that recipe was “disgusting.” Watch him here:
During the interview, the senator also joked about wanting to hang out with President Biden’s formerly drug-addicted son, jokingly telling Rogan as the podcast host cracked up, “The one thing that Republicans, man, that I think we got really wrong in the last few years is the anti-Hunter Biden stuff. I want to go hang out with Hunter Biden!”
Sne. Vance added, “I mean, I may the only Republican. That dude, that dude, knows how to have a good time.” Rogan added, speaking about Hunter S. Thompson, “He’s like Hunter S. Thompson without the writing talent. That guy went hard. You got to give it to him.” Vance then joked, “I would bet $100 that Hunter Biden is voting for Donald Trump for president.”
Rogan has explained that he has tried getting Kamala to come on the podcast, but she hasn’t done it. He said, during a different episode of his podcast, “You could look at this and say, ‘Oh, you’re being a diva, but she had an opportunity to come here when she was in Texas. I literally gave them an open invitation. I said, ‘Any time.’ I said, ‘If she’s done at 10 o’clock, we’ll come back here at 10 o’clock.’ I go, ‘I’ll do it at nine in the morning, I’ll do it at 10 p.m., I’ll do it at midnight if she’s up, if she wants to drink a Red Bull and fucking party on.’”
He added, “But it was very difficult to tie it down, and a lot of — they wanted to travel. See, the thing is, you can’t like — if I go somewhere, then there’s gonna be other people in the room. And they want to control a lot of things, I’m sure, according to the Bret Baier interview on Fox. Like, people are waving him off. That’s a distraction. My whole goal with her and with him is just talk. Just have a conversation like a human being. You find out things about people. You get a sense of them, at least. That was it. I don’t give a fuck what we talk about. I really don’t. I just wanna talk to you. Who the fuck are you?”
