Following the controversial interview between Jake Tapper and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, the CNN host has been called out by conservative critics. Commentators have pointed to the interview as an example of how journalistic integrity has deteriorated in America, where many believe a large portion of the mainstream media is essentially a propaganda arm for the Democratic Party.
Commentator for the Christian Broadcasting Network David Brody took to X voicing his opinion of the interview. “If you want to see a perfect example of why political journalism is dead in America, please watch every second of this interview between @jaketapper and @JDVance,” he said. He further accused Tapper of overt “media bias.”
Brody continued, “Jake Tapper literally went looking for a verbal fight with Vance and no, this was not “fact checking.” This was pure media bias and not journalism at all. If Tapper wants to go down this path of vociferously mixing it up with a conservative guest (and yes, I say conservative guest because you should watch how respectfully and gently he approached Nancy Pelosi in his interview with her), then he should start a leftist podcast and become a commentator.”
Furthermore, Brody expounded on his assertion that Tapper went far beyond “fact-checking” Vance during the interview where his responses and personal opinions seemingly bled together. Substantiating his opinion, he noted that Tapper was “actively arguing” with Vance throughout the conversation, displaying visible frustrations and emotions.
“That’s fine. But he should NOT go around and claim he’s a JOURNALIST. That is an absolute disservice to viewers. He is misleading them. He may THINK he’s a so-called, “JOURNALIST” but just watch this interview. He’s not being a journalist. He’s actively arguing with Vance throughout much of this interview. And he’s not just pushing back,” he added.
Moreover, Brody asserted that Tapper had an agenda which was evident by taking Trump’s comments out of context and twisting them to fit a narrative. “He took it way beyond that. He went in with a viewpoint and was determined to call Trump/Vance out on it. In the process, he even conflated two stories and got his facts wrong. He was taking quotes literally out of context to make his point, Brody said.
Suggesting that the media has played a substantial role in fueling support for Republican presidential candidates through its undeniable bias, Brody insinuated that Trump may not have ever been president if not for the mainstream news outlets always bashing him. According to Brody, this is why the general public lacks trust in the media.
Here’s the thing: the leftist media loves to complain about Trump but the truth is that there would never even be a “President Trump” if the media were honest and did their job. The public has lost trust in two key public institutions: media and government. There are so many more “Jake Tapper’s” out there. The public sees it even if the media figures themselves don’t.”
