Following the heated CNN interview with Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance, Jake Tapper has received backlash online for his conduct during the tense disagreement with former President Donald Trump’s running mate. Conservative commentators online have pointed out how Tapper seemingly lost his composure in an unprofessional manner as Vance offered brilliant rebuttals to his claims.
Popular conservative on X, Erich Hartmann, wrote about the interview, “It’s alarming to see Jake Tapper lose his composure like this. He’s professional for about the first 2 minutes, but then completely disintegrates… JD Vance knows his stuff, and comes across as extremely normal and reasonable here.”
Questioning Tappers stances throughout the conversation with Vance, Hartmann continued, “Why is Jake Tapper arguing like this? What does misrepresenting the fact accomplish? Is he a Harris surrogate? Does he think that Vance is just gonna sit back and let this stuff slide? Did he not do his homework? Tapper defends the Russia Hoax. Full throated. Wow.”
“Jake Tapper acts like he’s personally offended. Why?” Hartmann further asked, questioning why Tapper reacted with emotion, unusual for a journalist conducting an interview with a political candidate. He pointed out that this conduct could not be found during Fox News reporter Bret Baier’s interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I went back and looked at the Bret Baier interview w/ Harris, just to make sure I’m not imagining things. But it’s night and day,” he said. “e.g., This section is one where the left specifically claimed Baier was unprofessional, aggressive and unfair. Now compare that to Tapper/Vance.” Other users on social media agreed with Hartman’s sentiment.
One person noted, that while “tough” journalists who press candidates on hard-hitting issues are productive, Tapper appeared to represent mainstream media bias toward former President Trump as the election is just days away. “I like tough journalists but this was rather ridiculous. It clearly demonstrated a coordinated effort to bring down Trump with less than 2 weeks to go. There was no fair and honest journalism here. And walz would never ever be grilled this hard by jake,” they wrote.
The American Tribune previously reported on an instance during the interview where Tapper snapped at Vance after the Ohio senator called out the latest hoax. “So all those 10 people, including the former Vice President Mike Pence, all of these people are have this horribly damaged worldview, and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people into war. That’s what…That’s really your argument?” Tapper asked Vance.
Watch a clip from the interview below:
“Absolutely,” Vance said confidently before Tapper raised his voice and cut him off, “It’s not like these are conservative…” From there the discussion descended into an incoherent squabbling, where Vance maintained, “Absolutely, that’s my argument.”He added, “All of these people, Jake, they came into office thinking that they could control Donald Trump, that when he said he wanted peace in the world …”
Vance argued that when it was discovered that Trump would not play into the goals of the establishment, some of his former allies turned on him. “And when he found out, when he found out that he couldn’t, they all turned on Donald Trump,” he said.
