According to recent reports, the Kamala Harris campaign is deeply worried about the vice president’s prospects as the election is just days away. For weeks, Trump has shown signs of strong performance in the critical swing states, leading to pessimistic sentiment among Harris campaign staffers and Democratic lawmakers.
In the lead-up to the election, Harris has endured continual setbacks from poor performances in media appearances, where she lacks substance and clarity toward her platform. In contrast, former president Trump and JD Vance have been campaigning hard, particularly in battleground states. Trump has also improved his reach through various high-profile podcast interviews, such as his recent critically acclaimed discussion with Joe Rogan.
While polling suggests the race is still close, Democrats are worried about the direction voters are trending. One Democratic strategist told The Hill, “Yes, it’s close, but are things trending our way? No. And no one wants to openly admit that. Could we still win? Maybe. Should anyone be even slightly optimistic right now? No.”
Another Democratic strategist suggested, “If this is a vibe election, the current vibes ain’t great.” Furthermore, David Axelrod, an advisor to former President Barrack Obama, noted that Harris’ recent performance in interviews amounts to “word salad city.” CNN commentator Van Jones echoed this sentiment, stating,“The word salad stuff gets on my nerves.” He added, “I think some of the evasions are not necessary.”
The American Tribune reported on good news for the Trump campaign that is fueling Democratic fears. Prominent liberal pollster Doug Schoen recently explained that the Democratic Party is “losing grip” on the “blue wall” of battleground states which will play a decisive role in the upcoming election. He explained that Harris is hemorrhaging support in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
“The so-called blue wall of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania is eroding for the Democrats.” He continued, “There is a level of disorganization on the ground, and incoherence, vis-a-vis the messaging that is clear, and what I’m picking up is that the Harris campaign really doesn’t have a closing message or strategy as we, I think, saw in Bret Baier’s interview with Kamala Harris,” he said.
Schoen continued pointing out problems with the Harris campaign, stating, “And there is not a clear sense as to what she’s going to do different than Joe Biden, which, as you point out, close to 60% of America, has made them feel worse off. She hasn’t articulated a coherent plan, and it’s, frankly, perfectly logical that she would say, different times, different circumstances, different plan. Here’s what I’m doing, here’s what Trump’s doing. Vote for me. She hasn’t done it, and I don’t have a sense, Laura, that she’s going to.”
The Tribune also reported on a bombshell report from CNN data analyst Harry Enten who showed that Trump may even win the popular vote. “Trump may win the popular vote. Everyone has been talking about this idea that Trump may win in the electoral college, but Kamala Harris may win the popular vote, but Trump may finally get his great white whale,” he said.
“The fact is Donald Trump is very much in a position he could win the popular vote, which of course is something he would absolutely love to do.” Enten added, “The fact that Donald Trump has a legitimate shot of winning the popular vote is something I think a lot of folks, including in my line of work, really didn’t think could possibly happen when Donald Trump was running last time around. He could make history not just for Donald Trump, but for a Republican candidate as well.”
