Republican Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance recently sat down for an interview with CNN host Jake Tapper, during which the conversation devolved into a heated exchange, and emotions flared. Vance called out the left-leaning network over several hoaxes, sparking a tense back-and-forth between him and Tapper. However, Vance refused to back down, in another example of his professional handling of hostile interviews.
Tapper began by questioning Vance on a talking point that other Republicans close to former President Trump sought to undermine him. “So all those 10 people, including the former Vice President Mike Pence, all of these people are have this horribly damaged worldview, and they’re all just going after Donald Trump because they want to send people into war. That’s what…That’s really your argument?” he asked.
Vance said confidently, “Absolutely,” before Tapper fired back, raising his voice and talking over the Ohio senator, “It’s not like these are conservative…” As the the conversation descended into a dizzying quarrel, Vance maintained, “Absolutely, that’s my argument,” undeterred by Tapper’s shouting. Trump’s running mate proceeded to expound on his stance.
“These aren’t conservative Republicans who are concerned about Donald Trump…that’s not right?” Tapper asked. Vance responded, “All of these people, Jake, they came into office thinking that they could control Donald Trump, that when he said he wanted peace in the world and…” he said, before Tapper interrupted, “Mike Pence thought he could control Donald Trump?” Vance replied, Yes, he did.”
“Really?” Tapper asked in disbelief, breaking out into a laugh. Vance asserted that when the establishment politicians realized that Trump was not going to be a president that played by their rules, they pivoted toward attacking and undermining his presidency. “And when he found out, when he found out that he couldn’t, they all turned on Donald Trump,” he stated.
The American Tribune reported on another incident during the interview, which nearly turned into a shouting match. Calling out CNN for the Russia Hoax, Vance said,, “Ask yourself a basic question about network integrity. You guys talked about the Russia hoax. Non stop.” Tapper quickly cut off Vance, “The FBI was investigating it. The FBI was investigating it. We so we loop, so we covered that.”
Vance clapped back, ”And so you took the words of unnamed FBI agents and put them on your network as if they were the Gospel truth. You did it again and again. A viewer of your network would have believed that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin conspired in 2016, that was totally and preposterously false.” Tapper suggested, “We covered an FBI investigation. I don’t know why you want to talk about the FBI investigation.”
Watch Tapper snap at Vance:
Cutting off Tapper, Vance maintained, “You covered it in a way that gave credence to anonymous sources, accusations. You did it yourself, your network did it, Jake. But again, can we talk about the issues that Americans… I’m talking about things that Donald Trump has said,” the CNN host cut in.
“If you have an issue with whether or not he’s talking about the economy, enough that’s between you and your running mate.” Pointing out what Trump agenda, Vance stated, “He talks about how he wants to unleash American energy so we can lower the cost of groceries. He talks about the fact that housing has become unaffordable.”
