In yet more good news for Trump, one of the most critical counties in this election, and also one of the most closely watched, has seen a big burst in energy for Trump, and the GOP chairman for that state thinks things could swing to Trump in this election. That state is Nevada, the county is Clark County, and the chair is Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald.
McDonald is a veteran of the Los Vegas police force, and he is also the youngest person ever elected to Las Vegas’s city council. He, speaking to Fox News Digital about the former president, said that he sees the issues that concern voters in his state are helping the former president, as they mean Trump now has the enthusiasm edge, a major shift in Nevada for the former president.
Speaking to Fox News Digital about the two big issues that are at issue in this election and how they are ones on which Trump is strong, Mr. McDonald said, “The economy is the big one, but also security. That’s one thing a lot of people are worried about right now is the influx of people coming across the border.”
Continuing, he noted that though the border and border crossers are a big concern, another issue is the economy, which is good for Trump given how voters feel about his ability to handle economic issues. He said, “The economy is really big. Obviously, taking care of your families, making sure that you have the right step forward to be able to make a better life for your family.”
Building on that, he noted that those two issues, the economy and security, work for Trump because things are worse in respect to them than they were when Trump was president. He said, “So those are issues that when you’re reaching across and talking to people at these rallies, it’s like, ‘are you better off now than you were four years ago?’ That was a key line from Ronald Reagan.”
Then, he noted that Trump also has the reputation of caring about and working for the common man, which helps him. He said, “But it’s true, because who’s representing you? Who’s representing the working-class men and women? I’m a working-class guy, so I’m talking about things that are right in my wheelhouse.”
That’s when McDonald got to Clark County, noting that the sort of people who inhabit the county in which Las Vegas sits, from those who work in the restaurants to the laborers who build the hotels and structures for which it is famous, are leaning to Trump and getting energetically in favor of him in the run-up to the election.
Speaking about all the different groups of people in Las Vegas and Clark County who are suddenly supporting Trump, he said, “If you look at what’s happening with President Trump, he’s getting union members, we have culinary members that came to our last several rallies. We have laborers that have been heavily involved, ironworkers, carpenters.”
Building on that, he noted, “So it’s not so much that they’re labeled as something. They’re independent thinkers and when you’re talking about issues, it’s an easy one because you’re talking about kitchen table cabinets. You talk about what’s in the cabinet right now? You know what, prices are up for gas, prices up for food. How am I going to put the kids in a better school? All of those things right now, we’re suffering for the last three and half years, and that’s on the table.”
Commenting more directly on the energy issue, he said, “I think the energy has risen. You could call for a rally, you’re talking about 5,000 people who get turned away because there’s just no room. You’re talking about people that when you call for volunteers, they’re all over the place. Our walkers, we don’t have just members. We have teams that are going out, which we’ve never seen before.”
And, concluding by building on that, he noted that this is a big shift from traditional union support, he noted, “And you know, the Democrats, they have union workers that are being paid to walk out as volunteers. And we have teams now that you’ve never seen before. So the energy and enthusiasm is right in our wheelhouse.”
