“Repeat with the Fake News”: CBS Moderator Margaret Brennan Hammered for “Unfair” Incorrect Fact-Checks

Following the vice presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz, the CBS News moderators have caught substantial backlash for the “fact-checking” during the event.  Moderator Margaret Brennan was criticized on social media for what some described as “unfair” and incorrect fact-checking against the Republican vice presidential candidate.

Several times during the debate, the moderators interjected to weigh in on comments made by Vance despite allegedly agreeing that they wouldn’t provide fact-checks, instead letting the candidates dispute each other’s claims for viewers to decide on. At one point, Brennan jumped in to “incorrectly” fact-check the Ohio senator on climate change, as former President Trump pointed out.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Margaret Brennan just “fact checked” JD, incorrectly, on “Climate Change.” When is she going to fact check Tampon Tim on all of his false statements? Another repeat with the Fake News being unfair to the Republican Candidate, and trying to get the pathetic Democrat across the finish line. But it doesn’t matter, the Public sees it for what it is – FAKE NEWS!”  During the debate Norah O’Donnell also pointed out that “the overwhelming consensus among scientists is that the Earth’s climate is warming at an unprecedented rate” following comments pertaining to climate change.

During another controversial moment during the debate, Brennan attempted to fact-check JD Vance and move on without allowing for a rebuttal.  “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, Temporary Protected Status,” she said.  However, Vance didn’t down, talking over the moderators, insisting on setting the record straight.

“But Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check, and since you’re fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on,” Vance said. “So there’s an application called the CBP One app where you can go on as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand.”

“That is not a person coming in applying for a green card and waiting for 10 years — ” he added, as the moderators attempted to interrupt Vance and move on.  “Thank you, senator, for describing the legal process,” Margaret responded, before introducing the next topic.  Critics have blasted the fact-check while praising Vance for refusing to allow them to move on without hearing his side of the story.

The American Tribune reported on other criticism former President Trump directed at CBS News after he denied a request for an interview with “60 Minutes” recently.  The Republican presidential candidate turned down the interview demanding an apology for how they previously treated him in the last election cycle regarding the Hunter Biden laptop story.

Trump said, “Well, right now, they came to me and would like me to do an interview, but first I want to get an apology, because the last time I did an interview with them, if you remember, they challenged me on the computer.  They said the ‘laptop from hell’ was from Russia, and I said it wasn’t from Russia. If you remember Lesley Stahl, we got into a little bit of an argument on the camera, talking about that and other things. And you know, they really owed me an apology.”
