In a shocking moment recently, CNN showed itself to be the voice of reason, noting that Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris isn’t the moderate that she now pretends to be, but rather was the one who pushed numerous far-left positions just five years ago, during the 2019 pre-primary season.
As a reminder, now-Vice President and then-Senator Harris held radical policy views when she tried running for president in 2019 and dropped out before earning a single delegate, such as paying for gender transition surgeries for federal inmates and decriminalizing all drugs, including hard drugs like heroin. So, while she now tries to tack to the center, she has pushed far-left ideas until relatively recently.
So, CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski chimed in as a voice of reason and called out her recent attempts to present herself as a moderate, noting that it was very recently that she pushed extremely radical ideas. For example, Kaczynski noted that VP Harris, despite now presenting herself as an ally of the oil industry, was formerly promising to throw industry executives in jail.
He said, commenting on the matter, that then-Sen. Harris was seemingly trying to outflank radical leftists like Warren and Sanders by pushing ideas to their left. Beginning, he said, “This really shows just how sort of far-left Kamala Harris got in that 2019 Democratic primary when she was running with Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.”
Continuing, he added, pointing to what she said about the oil industry at the time and saying, “She was making this extremely bold promise that she was going to take the U.S. oil industry and possibly criminally prosecute them for their role in climate change. She compared it to Big Tobacco saying they knew the effects of climate change, but they hid it from the public.”
Then, building on that, he noted that the tune Harris is humming has changed dramatically since those pledges, saying, “Fast forward to 2024, what are her and Tim Walz doing? They are touting the record domestic oil production from those same oil companies during the Biden-Harris administration.”
Kaczynski also noted that there are other issues on which Kamala has flip-flopped, saying, “Yeah. She’s flip-flopped on a lot of issues related to energy. Take a look at just a few of them. She said she was going to ban plastic straws. She said she was going to ban fracking. We have heard a lot about that. And she said she would eliminate the filibuster to pass the pass the Green New Deal.”
Continuing, he noted that she even ran ads promoting her leftist environmental views, saying, “Now, she also ran Facebook ads during that campaign, which were touting her support for the Green New Deal, which were saying that she was going to take on big oil to stop for their role in contributing to climate change.”
Then, building on that, he explained that her recent comments seem politically calculated. He explained, “And now why is she doing this, Erin? Well, a recent poll that came out from Gallup actually shows that climate change ranks as the second least important issue to voters in that poll. And obviously, Pennsylvania, where were seeing a lot of the fracking stuff is very important.”
Concluding, he noted that the potential VP that Kamala did not pick had struck a moderate angle on the issue, saying, “And Josh Shapiro, the Democratic governor, has charted a very moderate path on that issue and been very supportive of the things that many progressives have had disliked there.”
