Famous conservative actor Dennis Quaid recently called on Americans to “pick a side” in the upcoming election while appearing at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Coachella, California. In recent months, the “Reagan” actor has been increasingly outspoken on his stance in the 2024 election, voicing his support for former President Donald Trump and urging other Americans to join him.
During his remarks at the Trump campaign event, Quaid explained how the current state of American politics is reminiscent of the “issues of the 1980” race between former President Ronald Reagan and former President Jimmy Carter. Outlining the dire problems plaguing the nation, Quaid explained how Trump is the obvious choice for voters who want a functioning country.
“I’m here today to tell you that it’s time to pick a side,” Quaid told the crowd of Trump supporters in California. “Are we going to be a nation that stands for the Constitution or for TikTok? Are we going to be a nation of law and order or wide open borders? Which is it, because it’s time to pick a side,” he said, illustrating the state of affairs in America.
“You know I’m an actor, and I just had this movie come out — it was a famous last name, Reagan,” Quaid, who had just portrayed the famous Republican president onscreen. “My favorite president of the 20th Century. It’s amazing how the issues of the 1980 election are very similar to what they are today. I don’t know if those of you who are of a certain age here remember the inflation that was going on back then. Twenty percent interest on a bank loan, we had Iran hostages, we were a nation in decline — that’s what they told us. Ronald Reagan came along and said, “No, we’re not a nation in decline. We’re going there,” and we followed him. The same with Trump, with President Trump, my favorite president of the 21st Century.”
The American Tribune reported on comments from Quaid earlier this year, in which he blasted the “weaponization of the justice system” while indicating that he would vote for former President Trump in November. “People might call him an a-hole, but he’s my a-hole,” he jokingly said during his appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
“I think I’m gonna vote for him in the next election,” he said to Piers Morgan. “It just makes sense. I was ready not to vote for Trump, until what I saw is, more than politics, I see a weaponization of our justice system and a challenge to our Constitution.” He added, “What he did with Korea, with Rocket Baby, the way he defeated ISIS in three weeks.”
Continuing to explain why Trump is the best leader for the nation, he said, “You know, people don’t even remember it happened so fast. How he stood up for us overseas. The way he responded to China. He stands up to people and that’s what makes him a leader. Rather than, what I kind of compare it to, what was going on in Jimmy Carter’s administration, where we’re trying to be everybody’s friend and pal.”
