Speaking during a recent interview on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” with FNC host Laura Ingraham, former President Donald Trump described how his youngest child, Barron, discovered and responded to the Butler, Pennsylvania, attempt on his life at the hands of a deranged shooter.
Particularly, former President Trump, when speaking to Ingraham, commented on how Barron, who is close with his parents, was shocked at what happened and how the fist pump he did after being shot and getting up showed people that he was still alive and well rather than deceased from the assassin’s bullets.
First, the former president noted that Barron found out about the incident while playing tennis, with one of his friends having to break the news, to him that his dad had been fired at and hit. Trump said, “Barron was playing tennis with his friends, and somebody walked over and ran over and said, ‘Your father’s been shot. He’s been shot.'”
Continuing, Trump noted that Barron asked Melania what had happened, saying, “Barron really likes his father a lot… and he came in [saying], ‘Mom, mom, Mom, what happened?’” That’s when Trump commented on the fist pump showing that he was alive, saying, “Then they saw me get up, and then they saw the fist bump… it’s very interesting. When I got up, people thought maybe he’s dead.”
Changing subjects a bit, he commented on the hospital that stiched him up, saying, “The hospital was great, and I didn’t realize this — when a president goes to an area, they close the hospital in its entirety, it’s ready for exactly this. I didn’t know they did. I got there, doctors and nurses were outside, and no people. They literally close it, almost like they expect this.”
Continuing on that same note, he said, “It’s… genius, but who would ever think that? And I was so impressed.” He then added that he had to convince the hospital that, shockingly, he had only been hit in the ear by the attempted assassin, saying, “I convinced them I thought I was only hit in the ear. It’s very interesting.”
Then, returning to the attempt itself, he commented on how the crowd went from somber to celebrating when he pumped his fist, saying, “But they got me up and I watched and it was dead silent, even though I was standing up and in vision because people didn’t know I was alive or not, and then when I did the fist pump, everybody realized and they’re screaming, ‘USA, USA.’ It was the craziest day. It was a crazy time.” Watch him here:
“Exactly 12 weeks ago this evening on this very ground a cold-blooded assassin aimed to silence me and to silence the greatest movement in the history of our country. But by the hand of providence and the grace of God, that villain did not succeed in his goal,” Trump told the crowd when speaking in Butler, PA for his second rally, when he returned to the site of his attempted assassination.
