In somewhat surprising news, given how her press conferences tend to go, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre has a new job in the Biden Administration. In fact, she was promoted. KJP has now been elevated to the position of senior advisor to the president, a position change that was effective immediately upon its announcement.
As a reminder, KJP, who appears to have been put in her position at least in part because she is African-American and is a member of the “LGBTQ” community (she is lesbian), as the Biden Administration bragged about when making her press secretary, has served in that role since May 13, 2022. Her senior advisor role was announced and became effective on October 7, 2024.
In a statement announcing her new position, Jeff Zients, the president’s chief of staff, said, “Karine has been a trusted advisor to the President and all of us here at the White House since day one. Her counsel will be critical to get as much done as possible for the American people in the coming months.”
As might be expected, conservatives on X (formerly Twitter) were unhappy about the news. Daniel Brewer on X wrote, “I heard yesterday that KJP was promoted to Senior Adviser to the president.
I thought that this was something by the Babylon Bee. I was proven wrong. She has been promoted to the innermost POTUS circle. She will also retain her role as Press Sec. She can’t one, much less both.”
Another commenter sounded off on the Biden Administration not firing people who do a bad job and instead promoting KJP, writing, “Worst Press Secretary ever, KJP, gets a promotion! No one ever gets fired in the Harris-Biden admin, they get rewarded for doing a bad job. ‘Senior adviser’ to the vegetable lol.”
Yet another commenter sounded off on the promotion in light of KJP’s recent back and forth with Peter Doocy, after which she stormed out, snapping, “KJP danced around the question, using misinformation, while accusing Peter Doocy of what she was actually doing. Then she gets a promotion today, when she can’t handle the job she has.”
On a somewhat different note, another commenter speculated that the point is to promote those who they want to reward so they get a better job outside of the administration, writing, “Just heard kjp got promoted. You all need to realize that feds promote those who are incompetent versus firing. Her promotion will get her a better job outside the government. She has been put on a shelf as we say in government speak.”
On the other side, Chris Jackson, a pro-Biden personality, wrote, “I hope you all will join me in congratulating our friend and favorite White House Press Secretary, @PressSec@K_JeanPierre, on her promotion to Senior Adviser to President Biden! From day one, she has had our president’s back, never wavering in her dedication and loyalty. There’s no one better to have in your corner than KJP. Well-deserved, my friend! Here’s to your continued success! 🍻”
