Minnesota Governor and 2024 Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Sunday” on Sunday, October 6, for an interview in which he discussed everything from the border wall to abortion rights. The interview was a disaster, as Walz did quite poorly, and he was skewered online for it.
The incident involved the border wall cropped up when Tim Walz claimed that VP Harris has the “strongest” border policies seen in America, an assertion with which many would disagree. In any case, he said, “The Vice President has made it clear that she has policies that make a difference. Her border policies are the most, strongest, the fairest we’ve seen.”
That was too much for the host of the show, Shannon Bream, who replied by saying that even many Democrats would disagree with that claim. She fired back, “You know, a lot of people, including your own party, would not join that statement. There are millions of people who have come here over the last few years that you know they see this as an open policies?”
Walz said that they have a “policy,” referring to the awful border bill the Biden-Harris Administration wanted to push through, whereas Trump doesn’t, saying, “Well, simply, we have a policy. Donald Trump sees it as a political … look, James Langford in Oklahoma, the Border Patrol agents, the Wall Street Journal, the Chamber of Commerce, all said, passed this legislation. You have to have Congress to authorize 1500 new border agents. You have to have Congress to authorize DOJ to speed adjudications on these asylum claims. Those are things that would actually work.”
Continuing, he again attacked Trump and defended the awful border bill, saying, “Donald Trump told us for four years he would deal with this. He didn’t. He didn’t build his wall. 2% Mexico didn’t pay for it. This is a real bill that has bipartisan support. It has the experts on board, and it starts to tackle these issues.”
Concluding, he patted himself on the back for not “demonizing,” anyone, saying, “And we don’t have to resort to demonizing people we don’t have to resort to to making up our crafting stories, as Senator Vance said he did, those things were not happening in Springfield. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t pass a piece of legislation to strengthen our border. That’s what Kamala Harris is talking about.”
Bream decimated him in response, saying, “That piece of legislation does cut, include the wall, that you guys have been so you’ve disparaged that. I mean, the Vice President has as well, so I don’t know if she really intends to move forward with that, but it was negotiated by three or four senators, and many Republicans came out against it long before President Trump indicated he didn’t like it either.” Watch them here:
Walz was further decimated on X for how awfully the interview went. One poster, Dustin Grange, wrote, “Going on Fox News this morning was a really, really bad idea by Tim Walz’s handlers. Here is Walz getting destroyed after trying to say that he’s now in favor of the border wall. Their desperation is showing.”
Replying, commenters said things like, “Everything he’s saying is a lie. He said if the wall was built he’d get a ladder company to hand out ladders so the illegals could use them to go over the wall. Desperate move to go on Fox this morning,” “Reminds me of the principal from beavis and Butthead,” and “Kamala’s numbers must really be in the toilet.”
Others said things like “Is there a reason we don’t point out that HR2, a bill that would ACTUALLY do things to secure the border, passed the house in 2023 and is just rotting on Chuck Schumer’s desk?” and “He just said the chamber of commerce was for his dumb bill that would have facilitated more illegal immigration.”
