Things got funny on MSNBC during a panel on Wednesday, October 2, when host Ari Melber went slackjawed after a formerly never-Trump ambassador who even went after the former president as an impeachment witness declared that he has decided to renounce Brandon and Kamala and instead support the former president.
That ambassador is former U.S. Ambassador Gordon Sondland, a Trump appointee who served as ambassador to the European Union and was one of those who went after the former president with a vengeance during the 2019 impeachment mess. Sondland, however, reversed course when speaking on the recent MSNBC panel, telling Melber and his fellow panelists that the Biden-Harris administration is, as he sees it, the bigger “threat to democracy.”
During the Wednesday panel, Sondland told his fellow panelists “I don’t stand by” former criticism of former President Donald Trump. Continuing, he explained that things are awful under Biden-Harris, saying, “I’ve now lived four years under the Biden-Harris policies, and I have to say that those policies are not only becoming an existential [threat] to our country’s way of life but to our allies as well.”
Melber then rudely interrupted him and said, as Sondland tried to finish his point about the vast difference between former President Trump and the current mess in the White House, “I’ll let you finish, but this is so striking. You said it was a ‘no for me’ after J6, and here we are right now, and you’re saying it’s a yes for you.”
Sondland then said that while he used to oppose Trump, now “it is a yes for me,” smiling back at Melber as he explained as much. He then added, commenting on how it was the awfulness of the Biden-Harris Administration that brought him to this point, “That is how badly the Biden-Harris team have prosecuted their job.”
Melber, pressing Sondland, asked him about the events that occurred on Jan. 6, 2021, asking if “that kind of attack on democracy is bigger than any policy.” Sondland demured on the question itself, but noted that he sees the Biden-Harris Administration as being the one attacking democracy, saying, “I am seeing so many attacks on democracy that eclipse Jan. 6.” Sondland added, “Policy matters greatly. Because policy translates into our way of life and the way our country operates.”
Further, Sondland said during the interview that he has lived under the Biden-Harris Administration for years, and sees what it is up to as being a threat not just to the American way of life, but to our overseas allies as well. He said, on that point, “I’ve now lived four years under the Biden-Harris policies, and I have to say that those policies are not only becoming an existential threat to our country’s way of life but to our allies as well.” Watch him here:
Sondland’s support comes as others in the military and foreign policy establishment support tit. For example, a collection of over 200 flag officers supported him in a recent letter. In that letter, the group, Flag Officers 4 America, wrote, in part, “The undersigned retired Generals and Admirals are endorsing Donald J. Trump for president in 2024 because he is a proven leader who will secure our border, repulse our adversaries, revitalize our economy and keep America safe and strong.”
