According to recent reports, Netflix saw its highest day of subscription cancellation of the entire year, just after the streaming platform’s co-founder made a massive $7 million donation to the Harris-Walz campaign. Following Reed Hasting’s substantial contribution to a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, Netflix cancelations nearly tripled.
As news broke of the political donation, supporters of former President Donald Trump called on conservatives to cancel their Netflix subscription to the streaming service in protest. Hastings has been increasingly vocal toward his support of Vice President Harris, writing on X shortly after President Biden withdrew from the 2024 race, “Congrats to Kamala Harris — now it is time to win.”
One user commented under Hastings’ post, “Just cancelled Netflix…this was the final straw…too woke and clearly anti American…any company actively contributing to Harris who lied for 4 years and is completely unfit for office is not getting my money…” Many others commented a similar sentiment, expressing that they would can their Netflix subscriptions.
Another person added, “Well folks, it looks like Mr. Hastings needs a reminder of what happened to a few other companies when they supported WOKE! Lesson 1 is when you are in business and your business supports patrons on both sides of the isle, you don’t alienate 50% of your customers by making stupid political statements! Lesson 2 is that your stockholders hold you accountable for your actions!”
One user offered a lengthy criticism of Hastings’ decision, posting, “Giving that lawless clown $7 million to further destroy our country is outrageous. Neither she nor Biden have done one positive thing for Americans. She lied to our knowing faces that Biden was senile – we all knew it! – now she, Extreme Hakeem and your leftist media loudly claiming SHE WAS NEVER BORDER CZAR AND NEVER IN CHARGE OF THE BORDER when we all heard it with our own ears!”
The same individual continued blasting Hastings, “You guys are nothing but lawless liars, full-on fascists throwing political opponents in jail on made-up charges under laws that don’t even apply to your claims. You do not care one bit 20 million unknown, unvetted people we cannot support have been encouraged to come in by this regime, for VOTES, using our own money to get them here and give them things citizens do not get. There are known terrorists, known gang members, murderers, r*pists and more who have killed our daughters and citizens, drunk illegals slaughtering our little boys and citizens. War, terrible inflation hurting us all. Why do you vote for that? WHY? There is no excuse for you on the left. Appalling. Of course I’m cancelling woke Netflix. Impossible to watch.”
Furthermore, Hastings joined other notable Democratic figures in calling for President Biden to drop out of the presidential race after the disastrous presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. “Biden needs to step aside to allow a vigorous Democratic leader to beat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hasting wrote in an email.
