During a recent appearance on MSNBC, Gina Raimond, the former Governor of Rhode Island and Commerce Secretary in the Bide-Harris administration, used hostile language when attacking Trump, claiming it is time to “extinguish” the former president. Conservatives have continually called out the “inflammatory rhetoric” that has been constantly used against Trump.
Trump was very nearly killed when a bullet grazed his ear during a failed assassination attempt at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally in July, and he just recently faced another alleged assassination attempt at his golf course in Florida. As a result, many have blamed the antagonistic Democratic rhetoric that often portrays Trump as an existential threat to the country.
Demonstrating these attacks, Raimond said, “What he says is the opposite. It’s just another lie, like, how did we get here? Let’s extinguish him for good.” She then suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris is the perfect candidate to defeat Trump, stating, “We have an answer. We have a remarkably talented candidate who is sincere, who’s pragmatic, who’s open. Let’s just get it done.”
Subsequently, conservatives on social media have railed against Raimon’s comments, calling out her poor choice in wording in light of the attempts on Trump’s life. Conservative Brief wrote, “Top Democrat – “Extinguish” Trump Just weeks after Donald Trump was nearly the victim of a second assassination attempt, here is Harris-Biden Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo using inflammatory rhetoric against the former President … Remember, these are the same people who will say it is Trump supporters pushing dangerous rhetoric.”
Following the first assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, The American Tribune covered the many examples of contemporary criticism against Trump, painting him as an existential threat to the country from prominent figures across the Democratic Party. After the attempt many have called for an end to the provocative rhetoric.
VP Kamala Harris previously said, “I’m headed to Philadelphia today to join @APIAVote for a Town Hall to discuss what’s at stake this election and the clear threat the former president represents to our democracy.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer claimed, “With Project 2025, the Trump Manifesto: The MAGA right is done speaking in euphemisms. They’re saying it straight to your face: If you can disagree with Donald Trump, watch your back. It’s bone-chilling. It’s un-American. It’s dangerous for our democracy.”
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi posted, “@JoeBiden and Democrats delivered progress For The People and will keep defending Democracy at home and abroad. We must overcome threats from MAGA Republicans as we fight to protect our freedoms, strengthen alliances and advance opportunity and dignity for all. #MondayMotivation”
The Tribune also reported on some of the absurd coverage from the media regarding the second alleged assassination attempt against the former president. After the news broke that a man was hiding in the bushes with a rifle at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, NBC’s Lester Holt seeming blamed the incident on Trump’s “increasingly fierce” rhetoric as if to blame the incident on the former president.
“Today’s apparent assassination attempt comes amid increasingly fierce rhetoric on the campaign trail itself,” Holt said, referencing the concerns of Springfield, Ohio, residents surrounding the mass influx of Haitian migrants. “Mr. Trump, his running mate JD Vance continue to make baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio. This weekend there were new bomb threats in that town,” the host added.
