Speaking during his rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday, September 21, former President Donald Trump responded to Vice President Kamala Harris’ demand for a second presidential debate between them, giving a definitive answer in a funny way to her attempt to give herself another chance in a debate.
As background, many on the right, including former President Donald Trump, hammered ABC News for how the first presidential debate went, arguing that it was a three on one battle in which Trump battled not just Kamala, but also the moderators. The Kamala Campaign then pushed for a second debate.
Afterward, on Saturday, September 21, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported that Vice President Harris had “accepted” an invitation from CNN to do another debate, one which would take similar form to the one between Trump and Biden. Harris, writing on X (formerly Twitter), wrote, “I will gladly accept a second presidential debate on October 23. I hope @realDonaldTrump will join me.”
Former President Trump responded during his Saturday rally, saying, “Kamala and her group have seen what’s happening to their campaign and it’s not going well for them. And they would like, just announced a little while ago as it was coming off the plane, they would like to do another debate. Although, good entertainment value.”
Continuing, he noted that CNN was fair the first time but is, in his view, unlikely to be this time given the criticism they faced for being relatively neutral. He said, “They were very fair. In other words, they won’t be fair again, because they took a lot of abuse from the radical left. ABC was three-on-one, but I was given credit for having done a very, very good job. I appreciate that. We did a great job. It was three on one.”
He then added that Harris had had a chance to go against him on Fox News Channel but she declined, saying, “She’s had her chance to do it with Fox. You know, Fox invited us on and I waited and waited and they turned it down. They turned it down. But now she wants to do a debate right before the election with CNN because she’s losing badly.”
Then, comparing the situation to a prize fighting match in which it is only ever the loser of the match who is demanding a rematch, the former president said, “It’s like a fighter. She sees the polls, she sees what’s happening. She’s losing badly. But it’s like a fighter who goes into the ring and gets knocked out. The first thing he says is, ‘I want a rematch, I want a rematch.’”
Watch him here:
Former President Trump wrote much the same thing in a post on his Truth Social social media platform, saying, “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH.’ Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate.”
