“Gutfeld!” Makes Audience History with Trump Appearance

Former President Donald Trump’s critically acclaimed appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Gutfeld!” drew the largest audience in the show’s history.  The show averaged 4.9 million viewers and 744,000 in the key advertising demographic of adults ages 25-54.  These are the highest ratings the show has earned since its conception in 2021.

Trump made headlines for his comments throughout the night while sitting down with host Greg Gutfeld,  Kat Timpf, Tyrus, and “Outnumbered” co-host Emily Compagno.  Trump addressed a wide variety of pressing topics, such as the controversial ABC News debate and his belief in God following the failed assassination attempt against him.

“On Wednesday, September 18th, FOX News Channel’s Gutfeld! delivered its highest-rated telecast in program history, averaging 4.9 million viewers and 744,000 in 25-54 demo. The program featured former President Donald Trump’s first late-night appearance since a 2016 interview with NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Gutfeld! was the most-watched show in all of cable and broadcast primetime, defeating the debuts of CBS’s Survivor (4.7 million P2+) and ABC’s The Golden Bachelorette (2.8 million P2+). Television’s number one-rated late-night program also beat all cable and broadcast late-night programs on Wednesday, including CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2.1 million P2+; 310,000 A25-54), ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.4 million P2+; 237,000 A25-54) and NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1 million P2+; 228,000 A25-54),” according to a press release from Fox News media.

Calling out ABC News over the debate, Trump said, “I think my only regret is that I wanted to be elegant, and I didn’t want to go after the anchors. I wish I did, in a way.”  The Republican presidential candidate maintained that he was treated with blatant unfairness.  “I was very unfairly treated by the anchor. I’m not fans of those guys anymore – and his hair was better five years ago,” Trump quipped about Muir.  “That happens with the clock.”

Trump also spoke about the continual impact the first failed assassination attempt during his July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has had.  Trump noted, that after his life flashed before his eyes as the bullet grazed his ear and narrowly missed his skull, he has spent considerable time thinking about God.  “So if you want to be president, I have a lot of friends that wanted to run. They’re thinking about maybe not doing it. But here’s the only good thing is that it’s always a consequential president that gets shot at,” he said, beginning the discussion.

Talking about the miraculous nature of his survival, Trump said, “And fortunately, so far, I’ve been very lucky, or something is greater than all of us up there, maybe watching over us,” Trump stated.  Following the mention of God, Gutfeld asked, “You bring up God, and you’ve almost been killed twice. Do you think more about your own mortality and what happens after you go on?”

Trump responded that he is not concerned about his mortality per se, but that he thinks often about God,  “Not about mortality, but I do think more about God, because, okay, Butler was really the greatest of all American if I’m not looking over there and I mean a full turn exactly 90 degrees, I wouldn’t be here right now,” he said, before joking, “And your ratings would be a little bit lower perhaps.”
