During a recent appearance on ABC’s “The View,” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a jab at Melania Trump, recounting a story about her at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral. According to Clinton, the former First Lady looked like a “kid” on the outside of a birthday party, questioning if they would be “accepted” in the broader group.
Seemingly painting herself, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and First Lady Jill Biden as an exclusive clique of Democratic wives, Clinton described their surprise at seeing Melania Trump attend the funeral. Clinton added that their “training” and “manners” kicked into play when they exchanged pleasantries with Trump’s wife.
“I saw Laura Bush – who is just absolutely delightful – talking with Melania Trump and none of us knew that she was going to be there. And Michelle and Jill Biden and I were, like, wow, nobody told us. But immediately, you know, all of our training, our good manners, everybody immediately went up and Michelle gave her one of her hugs and even Jill said how glad she was to see her and I said hello to her, and I write about how I thought it was a very positive thing for her to show up,” Clinton said.
Clinton further claimed that it must have been intimidating for Melania to attend the event as an apparent outsider to the political establishment. “I think it was a little scary. I say she looks like the kid on the outside of the birthday party, like, am I going to be accepted? Do I belong here?” she told the panel of ladies on “The View.” However, the co-hosts praised Melania for her attendance at the funeral.
Clinton has also described this incident involving Melania in a recent book she published. “Melania had a look on her face – very smiley but uncertain – that reminded me of the little kid at the birthday party who doesn’t know anyone and is waiting at the edge of the circle, hoping people are going to be nice,” the former Democratic presidential candidate reportedly wrote. “I can appreciate how awkward it must have been,” Clinton added.
Melania Trump is set to release a new memoir next month, titled “Melania” in which she will offer her account of “the truth” as Donald Trump’s family has faced incessant drama and attacks since he entered the political arena. “As a private person who has often been the subject of public scrutiny and misrepresentation, I feel a responsibility to clarify the facts. I believe it is important to share my perspective: The truth,” she said in a recent teaser for the book.
In a recent video uploaded to X, Melania also addressed the controversial 2022 FBI raid at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Describing what it was like to be “invaded by the government,” she said, “I never imagined my privacy would be invaded by the government here in America, the FBI raided my home in Florida and searched through my personal belongings.”
