In something of a wild plot twist, CNN host Dana Bash spoke out about Vice President Kamala Harris and her tendency to repeat the same tired talking points over and over and over again, saying that the schtick of the Vice President is tired and repetitive enough to inspire a drinking game. Such is what Bashs said on Wednesday, September 18, during a panel discussion on CNN.
As a reminder, Bash had hosted a recorded interview with Vice President Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, that was widely ridiculed by the right as being an utter softball for the Vice President that she still somehow managed to do poorly with. Bash has also been involved in spats with Trump running mate JD Vance.
In any case, Bash, despite seemingly being on the side of Kamala Harris, went on the attack against her during the Wednesday panel. Doing so, Bash used a clip of Kamala rambling about what she calls an “opportunity economy.” Bash noted that Harris repeated the phrase “small business” again and again during the clip, which was quite annoying.
Bash said, joking about starting a drinking game based on Kamala’s continued use of the same phrased, “When you listen to Kamala Harris and what she will do, you can almost start a drinking game every time she says ‘small businesses.’ Let me give you an example.” Then, playing the clip, during which Kamala used the same phrase twice in 20 seconds, Bash said, “Describe the politics of that.”
Attempting to defend Kamala, Semafor’s Dave Weigel told Bash, “Well, she says that, and she also talks about being a middle-class kid. That’s also at the front of her answers. If you look at the interviews they’ve been doing with local media, and they’ve opened up a bit more since the debate, the first question is often, ‘What are you going to do to lower prices?’”
Continuing, Weigel noted that question in particular was a “very hard question for an incumbent party to answer.” He then said, “It has implications that are very Trumpian. Trump says he’s going to do mass deportation, that will decrease demand. Trump says he’ll explore more energy, that’ll decrease energy costs.”
Weigel also argued that inflation isn’t as bad as it once was but prices are still far higher than people think they should be. He said, “Democrats can point to the fact that inflation is actually — it was bad two years ago, it’s not now — but what people want to hear is how do you make the prices go down.” He admitted that VP Harris “doesn’t have an answer” to that question.
