Co-host on ABC’s “The View” Sunny Hostin recently criticized Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, over a gesture that indicated she might be open to supporting former President Donald Trump. Hostin suggested that because Brittany is in an interracial relationship, she should know better than to support Trump.
“It just seems to me that since she is in an interracial marriage, she should have known that to support a racist is problematic, her children are biracial and her family is one of the families, that in the ’70s could not have lived in any of Donald Trump’s buildings,” Hostin said, referencing accusations that Trump was discriminatory toward who could reside in his real estate properties.
Hostin, who has continually criticized black Trump supporters, suggested that Mahomes lacked political awareness. “It just seems to me that maybe she’s just not that politically savvy or maybe she’s just not read in,” she said.
For context, the uproar that Mahomes sparked stems from her liking an Instagram post that highlighted Trump’s platform and policy stances. Former White House Director of Strategic Communications and Assistant to the President, Alyssa Farah Griffin, weighed in, “Granted, all we know is that she liked a Trump post. We don’t know, she hasn’t stated since that she has supported him. That’s fair to interpret that she may have but we don’t know that she’s a supporter.”
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from Mahomes addressing the backlash she has received for her social media activity. “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s not reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well,” Mahomes said, refusing to back down in the face of the criticism.
Mahomes further addressed the controversy on a subsequent podcast appearance, stating, “I think the main thing, you know, he always told me is like, stop caring what people think, especially the people that don’t even know you. And so I think social media used to get to me a lot, and now it’s just like, ‘Honestly, I don’t give a F-*-*-* [she spelled the word out] what people have to say about me anymore, and I think he’s helped me get to that point to where I’m strong in who I am; I’m confident in who I am.”
Former President Donald Trump also thanked Brittany Mahomes for allegedly defending him. “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country,” Trump said. “With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION Ravaging all Americans, and a World that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless “leaders,” it is nice to see someone who loves our Country, and wants to save it from DOOM.”

However, Patrick Mahomes has taken a neutral stance, refusing to endorse either candidate. “I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” he said during a recent press conference. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It’s to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family.”
