During a recent CNN panel discussion, Republican pundit Scott Jennings blasted the Democratic “bloodbath” talking point, where Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly taken Donald Trump’s comments out of context to spread a lie about the former President. As there have now been two assassination attempts against Trump, Jennings called for Democrats to stop pushing hostile, inflammatory rhetoric against the Republican presidential candidate, such as the “bloodbath” lie.
For context, Trump had previously spoken about the economic consequences that would occur under a second term of the Biden-Harris administration, illustrating how it would be a “bloodbath” for the automobile industry. Subsequently, Democrats took that single word out of context to suggest Trump would incite political violence if he lost the upcoming election.
Speaking about the deceptive claim from Democrats on the CNN panel, Jennings said, “It is said by every Democrat working for or around her campaign, every day on this network and every other one! The ‘bloodbath’ thing is stated every single day. But my point is, ‘dictator,’ ‘bloodbath,’ ‘eliminate the Constitution,’ what do you think that does to people?”
However, CNN anchor Abby Phillip attempted to interject, claiming she wanted to set the record straight. “You’re referring to Trump’s use of the word ‘bloodbath’ when he was talking…” she began before Jennings cut in, “And what was he talking about?” Phillips replied, “I’m going to explain it to people, because I think there’s confusion about this.”
The anchor admitted, “The use of the word ‘bloodbath’ when he was talking about, you know, vehicle manufacturing jobs in the United States. Vice President Harris improperly and unfairly mischaracterized that as him saying there would be a bloodbath if she were elected. However, she did not say that if Trump were elected there would be a bloodbath, she did not say that.”
Emphasizing the coverage of Trump that paints him to be an existential threat to American democracy, Jennings said, “I know you have interviewed and have had people out here and have watched the same coverage I have. The ‘bloodbath’ garbage is an – it is a pillar of the Democratic campaign against Trump, as is ‘dictator,’ as is ‘eliminate the U.S. Constitution.’”
The American Tribune reported on other comments from Jennings on CNN, in which he recently claimed that Harris was an “honorary Republican.” Following the presidential debate Jennings said, “Here’s my nightcap. I was scrolling through the debate news today and I read headlines that say thing like, ‘Why Kamala Harris has embraced America’s oil boom,’ ‘Harris embraces U.S. fossil fuels,’ ‘Harris: frack on, my dudes,’ ‘Harris embraces oil and gas on debate stage,’ and then I heard her say she’s a gun owner.”
He added, “And so, I know this is gonna, like, break your heart, I just want to once again welcome Kama — we’ve got a Democrat who’s out here trying to pump oil and buy guns.” He quipped, “And I don’t know if she means it or not, but it is a step in the right direction when a national Democrat can embrace fossil fuels and gun ownership at the same time. Welcome Kamala Harris, honorary Republican of the night.”
