Earlier this summer, former President Donald Trump was attacked by the Harris-Walz campaign for hosting an event in a Michigan town where White supremacists had supposedly held a rally the previous month. Trump led a campaign event in Howell, Michigan, to promote his pro-police agenda on crime and safety, which he has blasted the Harris-Walz campaign on.
During his event, Trump stood in front of local law enforcement officers with campaign signs that read “Make America Safe Again!” A reporter asked the former president, “Will you respond to Kamala Harris’ campaign attacking you for being in this town because they say there are white supremacists here?” As the question was asked, there was an immediate, loud boo from the crowd.
Trump succinctly responded, “Who was here in 2021?” The reporter answered, “Joe Biden,” prompting Trump to laugh and thank everyone before turning and walking away. Reportedly, President Biden had traveled to Howell in 2021 to tout infrastructure initiatives and spending packages that would advance his social agenda.
The Harris campaign slammed the Republican presidential candidate over his stop in Howell, claiming White supremacists have observed Trump “praise Hitler” and “defend Neo-Nazis.” An official in the Harris campaign suggested that the former president has “encouraged” White supremacists through his actions over the years.
According to Harris’s Michigan communications director, Alyssa Bradley, “The racists and white supremacists who marched in Trump’s name last month in Howell have all watched him praise Hitler, defend neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, and tell far-right extremists to ‘stand back and stand by.’ Trump’s actions have encouraged them, and Michiganders can expect more of the same when he comes to town next week.”
However, Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt maintained that there was no connection between Trump’s stop in Howell and the history associated with the town. “President Trump will travel to Howell to deliver a strong message on law and order, making it clear that crime, violence, and hate of any form will have zero place in our country when he is back in the White House,” Leavitt stated.
The American Tribune recently reported on past comments from Dr. Ben Carson defending former President Trump amid constant accusations from the left that claim he is a racist. During a previous appearance on ABC’s “The View,” Carson stood up for his friend and political ally in the face of a hostile, liberal panel that continually attacks Trump.
Watch Trump’s epic one-liner below:
“Well, you know, you have to look at the good and the bad. There is no perfect person … but you know, you look at when Donald Trump first went down to Palm Beach area, and you know, a lot of the clubs down there would not accept Jews and blacks, he insisted on Jews and blacks, and helped to break that open. So has he said some things that I wouldn’t say or that you wouldn’t say? Of course,” Carson said.
He added, “I have met a lot of his employees, including African Americans, and they have nothing but good things to say. Somebody who’s hired as many people as he has hired, and you can find very few people who have anything negative to say. And then you have to look at his family. I always say, one of the ways that you measure a person is looking at their children, and how do their children act?” he added.
