Speaking during a recent event in the state of Georgia, Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance spoke about the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump that occurred on Sunday, September 15. Sen. Vance said that Trump was fine, in good spirits, and mainly annoyed that a birdie put opportunity had been ruined.
According to Sen. Vance, former President Trump called him while he was at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio alongside his seven-year-old child. Sen. Vance, telling the story of what the former president said on the call, said Trump told him, “’JD, you’re not going to believe this, but they tried to do it again.’ And I said, ‘No they didn’t. You’re joshing me. What’s going on here sir?’”
Continuing, Sen. Vance told him what the former president explained over the phone. According to Vance, Trump explained, “‘No, I was playing golf and the Secret Service found somebody who was trying to shoot me,’” to which Vance said he replied, ‘Oh my lord, sir, I’m so glad you’re okay. I mean, are you doing okay?…’”
Sen. Vance then said that Trump insisted that, despite being shot at, he was “fine.” In fact, according to Senator Vance, it was mainly the fact that his birdie put was disrupted by the day’s events that “pissed off” the former president. He said, commenting on that, “This is just who Donald Trump is: He said, ‘I’m a little mad because I was about to make a birdie putt on the 6th hole and they wouldn’t let me finish.’”
Then, turning from Trump’s reaction to what that reaction shows about him as a man and how it should impact the presidential election, Vance said, “That is kind of the guy that you want to be president of the United States, right? Who is phased by nothing, who is telling jokes afterwards. I think I was without a question bothered by it more than he was.”
Further, building on that, he declared that he wanted to “take this opportunity to call for a reduction in the ridiculous and inflammatory political rhetoric coming from too many corners of our politics.” That elicited applause from the audience and was in line with the Trump campaign calling out the rhetoric from the left that preceded the assassination attempt.

Trump, posting about the rhetoric issue on Truth Social, said, “The Rhetoric, Lies, as exemplified by the false statements made by Comrade Kamala Harris during the rigged and highly partisan ABC Debate, and all of the ridiculous lawsuits specifically designed to inflict damage on Joe’s, then Kamala’s, Political Opponent, ME, has taken politics in our Country to a whole new level of Hatred, Abuse, and Distrust. Because of this Communist Left Rhetoric, the bullets are flying, and it will only get worse!”
He added, in the same post, “Allowing millions of people, from places unknown, to INVADE and take over our Country, is an unpardonable sin. OUR BORDERS MUST BE CLOSED, AND THE TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, AND MENTALLY INSANE, IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM AMERICAN CITIES AND TOWNS, DEPORTED BACK TO THEIR COUNTIES OF ORIGIN. WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME INTO OUR COUNTRY, BUT THEY MUST LOVE OUR NATION, AND COME IN LEGALLY AND THROUGH A SYSTEM OF MERIT. THE WORLD IS LAUGHING AT US AS FOOLS, THEY ARE STEALING OUR JOBS AND OUR WEALTH. WE CANNOT LET THEM LAUGH ANY LONGER. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
