In the wake of the mess of presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris that was hosted by ABC News on Tuesday, September 10, Fox News Channel host Greg Gutfeld sounded off on the debate and called a a “DEI debate” due to one-sided “fact checking” and apparent bias displayed by the moderators.
As background, the two ABC News moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis, drew outrage from the right and even some on the center-left over how they displayed what critics contended was their bias in only fact-checking former President Trump, sometimes by claiming his correct claims were false, while letting Kamala get away with obviously untrue statements.
On Wednesday, the 11th of September, Gutfeld responded by blasting the debate performance of both as utterly awful, saying on “The Five” that it was the American people who really lost the debate because they didn’t get anything productive out of a debate in which the “refs” were obviously working to promote one side.
He said, “Well, I don’t know who won, but I know who lost. It was the American people. You know, you could say if you complain about the refs, you’re losing. Well, if the refs are corrupt, you’ve got a complaint because everybody lost. I felt like my brain was being waterboarded by the sheer nonsense of these idiot moderators.”
Continuing, he described the matter as a “sham competition and compared it to trying to find a value for a forged painting. He said, “I honestly don’t know how anyone can decide who won the debate. That’s like trying to guess the price of a painting that you suspect is a forgery. You can’t objectively decide a winner in a sham competition.”
Then, further roasting what he characterized as the unfair nature of the debate, Gutfled argued that it should be considered “truly the first DEI debate” because of the tilted playing field present, saying, “This is truly the first DEI debate where one candidate was subjected to a high standard and the other was held to no standards at all.”
Further hammering that same point and ridiculing what he argued was the attempt of the moderators to stack the odds in Kamala’s favor, Gutfeld said, “They removed the essence of fairness to achieve an outcome that could not be scored. You cannot score that. That is why you can’t say who won or who lost. A liberal should be ashamed that your candidate needed the odds to be stocked so heavily in their favor.”
Watch him here:
Gutfeld isn’t the only one to sound off over the debate. Megyn Kelly said she was disgusted by it, telling her audience, “Well, I watched it. Did you watch it? I’m disgusted. I’m disgusted. I’m ashamed of those moderators at ABC News, they did exactly what their bosses wanted them to do. The person who runs ABC News is a close personal friend of Kamala Harris that is responsible for Kamala Harris and her husband meeting, and they did Dana Walden’s bidding tonight, it was three against one on that debate stage this evening.”
Kelly also said, commenting on how the moderators seemed aligned with Kamala, “It was three against one. It’s very easy to look like you know what you’re doing when both moderators are entirely on your side. Trump did the best he could under the circumstances, but it really was like three fighters in the ring pummeling one opponent, and Trump tried to take them all on.”
