“Mr. Wonderful” Calls on Americans to Stop Buying “Stupid Stuff” as Inflation Causes Budget Trouble

Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary recently called on American consumers to reevaluate their discretionary spending habits in a recent clip uploaded to social media.   Particularly as inflation has devoured the household budgets of many Americans, the business icon maintained that people should stop spending their money on “stupid stuff.”

O’Leary pointed out that many people unnecessarily spend money on overpriced coffee and food when they go to the office.  “Stop buying coffee for $5.50. You got to work and spend $15 on a sandwich – what are you, an idiot?” Mr. Wonderful said, questioning the intelligence of anyone who would waste money on such non-essential items.

Especially in high-cost-of-living urban environments, O’Leary illustrated how people will needlessly squander their salaries when they eat out consistently.  The businessman offered the timeless advice of making a sandwich at home and bringing it to work and instead of paying exorbitantly more while at the office.

“It costs 99 cents to make a sandwich at home and bring it with you,” he added, “You start to add that up every day, it’s a ton of money. Most people, particularly working in metropolitan cities, are just starting on their job, making their first $60,000, [and they] piss away about $15,000 a year on stupid stuff, and that’s what they should stop doing.”

As the presidential election fast approaches , O’Leary has been increasingly outspoken about his political views.  The American Tribune recently reported on Mr. Wonderful’s critical opinion toward Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.  “I didn’t know anything about the VP candidate, Tim, and so I did some digging last week – I got the data last Friday. He is not a good manager,” he said, questioning his leadership skills.

O’Leary cited Walz’s record as the Democratic governor of Minnesota, asserting that he was detrimental to the state economy. “If you look at his stewardship of his state, Minnesota, it’s been not good. People may say ‘No, you’re partisan, you’re partisan.’ No, I’m not! I’m looking at the track record of an individual who came into a state and wiped out job creation. He wiped out job creation in professional services, manufacturing, accounting—every subcategory.”

“You look at those jobs, and they moved to South Dakota, North Dakota. The South Dakota job rate right now is four times that of Minnesota,” he added, further describing Walz’s negative impact on the Minnesota job market.  Criticizing Walz’s policies, he said, “Minnesota only creates jobs in services that are funded by the government, such as healthcare and social services; every other sector is in decline. He’s also added a surcharge of one percent (100 basis points) on top of the 9.8% taxes on individuals who are retiring, and of course, they’re leaving the state in droves.”

In other remarks, O’Leary has also sounded off on Kamala Harris, claiming that her policies “decimate” the country.  After comparing Harris to the leftist Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, O’Leary said, “Because if you don’t know what you’re doing, because you’ve never executed anything and you don’t know how to do it, like the Trudeau story, you decimate your country.”
