During a wild incident in Congress on Tuesday, September 10, Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell, known mainly for his unwitting relationship with the Chinese spy named Fang Fang, freaked out over a meme that had been made, seemingly using an artificial intelligence image generator, that showed former President Donald Trump saving a cat and duck.
As background, the meme about which Swalwell was having what Townhall jokingly called a “FULL ON MELTDOWN” in a funny tweet about the incident, was posted to X (formerly Twitter) by the House Judiciary GOP X account. In the post, which has now been viewed over 71 million times, the House Judiciary GOP said, “Protect our ducks and kittens in Ohio!” Check that meme out here:
As background, the meme with the cat and duck was a reference to what Snopes currently reports as an unverified claim that Haitian refugees living in the state of Ohio, namely the town of Springfield, are eating the pets and wildfowl in the area. Some of the pictures and videos of the supposed problem that have gone viral are from other areas, and one of them depicts an American citizen, not a Haitian.
In any case, the allegations, some of which come from town hall footage from the town of Springfield, led to a flurry of online commentary and content, including jokes about voting for Trump to save wildfowl and pets. Amongst those was the House Judiciary GOP meme posted above, which stemmed from the online outcry and was posted on September 9.
It was that meme that caused Swalwell’s freak-out. He said, in video of his “melt down,” as Townhall called it, that the claim at the root of the meme had been “debunked,” saying, “What in the hell is this? The chairman tweets, ‘protect our ducks and kittens in Ohio’ because he goes some down, goes down some crazy rabbit hole. Completely debunked that aliens are eating pets.”
Continuing, Swalwell accused House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of promoting Kanye West as West made anti-semitic comments, saying, “My God, are you okay, Mr. Chairman, because last year, for a very long time, you tweeted and promoted Kanye West as he was calling for genocide against the Jews, and you kept it up.”
He then went back to attacking the meme, saying, “And now, when we have victims coming here, you’re tweeting this nonsense. I don’t know why you would do this. I hope you’re okay. I don’t know if the aliens who are eating your ducks are in the room with us right now, but Mr. Chairman, this is a serious issue. These people have loved ones who have been lost. And you tweeted this!”

As might be predicted, the comments about Swalwell on X were merciless and mainly revolved around his relationship with Fang Fang. One, for example, wrote, “Hahahaha hahahaha. I love. Don’t every forget he was banging a Chinese spy while on the intelligence committee. I don’t understand why he’s not expelled or why the Democrats don’t think it was a big deal.”
