In yet another embarrassing, for her, comment, former Wyoming member of Congress Liz Cheney told ABC News’s Jonathan Karl that American voters are “abandoning the Constitution” if they choose to not vote for Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. That came during a Sunday, September 8 interview on ABC News’s “This Week.”
As background, Cheney once claimed that Kamala is an intolerable radical. In a post on Twitter in August of 2020, Cheney wrote, “Kamala Harris is a radical liberal who would raise taxes, take away guns & health insurance, and explode the size and power of the federal gov’t. She wants to recreate America in the image of what’s happening on the streets of Portland & Seattle. We won’t give her the chance.”
Then, changing her tune this election cycle, Liz said that Trump is the real danger to America. “Because we are here in North Carolina, I think it is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I’ve said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him,” Cheney said on September 4.
Continuing, she said that that is why she is backing Kamala, saying, “But, I don’t believe we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states. And, as a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
Then, a few days later, Cheney spoke to Karl and went all in on Kamala, saying that those with a conservative, pro-Constitution disposition have to vote for Kamla and then “rebuild [a] true conservative movement after the 2024 election. She said, “those of us who are conservative, those of us who believe in fidelity to the Constitution have a responsibility and have a duty to recognize, this is not about partisan politics, and the country is going to need to rebuild true conservative movement when we’re through this election cycle.”
Continuing, she said that voting for former President Donald Trump in November is a decision to abandon the US Consitution in the name of partisanship. That comment comes despite Trump being relatively pro-gun and pro-free speech in approach to rights, whereas Kamala is seemingly pro-censorship and pro-gun control, making the claim that she is pro-Constitution a dubious statement at best.
In any case, it is what Liz Cheney claimed, deriding those Republicans who back Trump and claiming that voting for him or someone other than Vice President Kamala Harris is a threat to the Constitution. She said, “But this November, casting a vote for Donald Trump or writing someone in means that you’ve made the decision in too many instances that so many elected Republicans have made which is to abandon the Constitution, to tell yourself that this is just simply, you know, a partisan choice. That’s not what we’re facing this time around.”
