During the Trump rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin, on Saturday, September 7, former President Donald Trump received an impassioned endorsement from a Grammy Award-winning country music star, Gretchen Wilson. Wilson, making her plea to the country on behalf of the former president and his political movement, sounded off on the Democrats for abandoning the American people and highlighted Trump’s virtues.
Wilson both performed at the rally and spoke about politics. Speaking about her political views and why she supports former President Trump this time around, she noted that she grew up humbly in Illinois, and her family supported the Democrats for the longest time because they saw that party as being the one that supported and fought for the common man.
Commenting on that aspect of her family’s long-running support for Democrats, Wilson noted that the Democratic Party left people like her and her family behind. First, she commented on her humble roots in the American midwest, saying, “I’m a midwesterner. I come from a very small town in southern Illinois. I grew up very much like Senator JD Vance. I had to work hard and fight my way out of poverty just like many other Americans have done, but this is what I was taught to do: To earn my way…
Then, after noting her background in the midwest and noting that she is similar to JD Vance in terms of humble background, she noted that they were “Kennedy Democrats,” meaning patriots who cared about the common man, saying, “Back in the day, my family were all Kennedy Democrats. But that’s when the Democrats were on the side of the people.”
Continuing, she noted that she started paying more attention to politics and that, when she did so, she realized that her family had been left behind by a Democratic party that no longer cared about people like them and so wouldn’t advocate for their interests. She said, “Once I started paying attention to what was really going on I realized, the Democratic party left us.”
Then, using that to call on those listening to pay attention to what is going on and being said, she said, “As a songwriter I pay close attention to words. The words that are being used, and the words that are not being used. I urge all Americans to pay close attention to what you are hearing and not hearing from the media, because the issues that are most important for our survival are what we’re voting on.”
Concluding, she told the crowd that it needs to show up to the voting booths in November and “vote for freedom,” saying, “I’m here today to entertain you, but I’m also here today to show my support for the only team in this race that is telling the truth. My story isn’t really that rare, but the American dream that I have been fortunate enough to find will almost certainly be lost forever if we do not show up and vote for freedom in November…” She added, “Let’s make sure we the people do all we can to save our country by voting for President Trump and JD Vance.”
