According to recent reports, the conservative legal group America First Legal filed a lawsuit against all 15 Arizona counties for failing to remove illegal immigrants from their state voter rolls. The organization initially told the counties in July that it would take legal action to protect election integrity if they failed to remove the non-citizens from the voter rolls.
America First Legal President Stephen Miller explained the need for “emergency action” to ensure the integrity of election protocol ahead of November. “We are taking emergency action to secure our elections. In addition to Maricopa, we are now suing 14 additional counties in Arizona for refusing to remove illegal aliens and non-citizens from their voter rolls,” he said. “America First Legal will do everything in its power to fight mass illegal alien voting and foreign interference in our democracy.”
The conservative legal team announced the move on X to stop “illegal alien voting” in Arizona. “We are suing ALL 15 counties in Arizona for refusing to remove illegals from their voter rolls. This follows our lawsuit against Maricopa,” America First Legal wrote. “Every county in AZ is flagrantly defying its duty under state law to expunge illegal voters.” The group previously filed a lawsuit against Maricopa County on behalf of the Strong Communities Foundation of Arizona and Yvonne Cahill, a concerned citizen.
America First Legal noted in a press release that it is fighting Maricopa County for its suspicious election processes. “Maricopa County removed the case to federal court, arguing that the case also involved federal laws that, in the county’s view, should be interpreted in federal court. Maricopa County is notorious for employing procedural maneuvers to delay election cases and keep them from being heard on the merits,” the legal group said in a press release. “Maricopa County’s attempts here have backfired. Arizona state court rules only allow for one county to be sued in a case like this, whereas federal court rules allow a plaintiff to sue more than one county at a time.”
The action from America First Legal comes as other states across the country have taken action to audit and remove ineligible individuals from their voter rolls. The American Tribune recently reported on an initiative in Texas that purged thousands of non-citizens and felons from its voter rolls ahead of the election.
Gov. Abbott said, “Election integrity is essential to our democracy. I have signed the strongest election laws in the nation to protect the right to vote and to crackdown on illegal voting. These reforms have led to the removal of over one million ineligible people from our voter rolls in the last three years, including noncitizens, deceased voters, and people who moved to another state.”
The Republican governor further maintained that the state will remain diligent in protecting the integrity of Texas’ democratic processes. “We will continue to actively safeguard Texans’ sacred right to vote while also aggressively protecting our elections from illegal voting,” he said while noting the efforts to safeguard voting will be ongoing.
