Television personality and comedian Ellen DeGeneres recently announced her final stand-up special, “Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,” which will be released later this month on Netflix. The longtime talk show host also noted that she will address her popular TV show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which ended in 2022 after beginning in 2003, airing 19 seasons.
“My final stand up special, ‘Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,’ will premiere September 24th on @Netflix,” DeGeneres wrote on social media. Reportedly, Ellen has been performing small comedy sets across California throughout the summer, presumably to sharpen her skills in preparation for the anticipated Netflix special.
To a sold-out crowd in Santa Rosa, California, DeGeneres touched on her exit from daytime television following wild accusations about “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Ellen was accused of propagating a “toxic” workplace culture that allegedly led to intimidation and sexual abuse.
“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” Ellen told the crowd during her set. “I got chickens,” she said, addressing her newfound hobby of raising poultry, before continuing, “Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.” She added, “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me,’” she added. “Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”
DeGeneres continued joking about the damning accusations made about her alleged toxic workplace environment. Ellen further quipped, “Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown. I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman.” She added, “I am many things, but I am not mean,” she added.
The American Tribune reported on recent comments from Ellen, who indicated she would be leaving Hollywood for good. When a fan asked her if she would be doing any other projects after her comedy tour and Netflix special, DeGeneres claimed, “Um, no. This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
Ellen also explained her disappointment toward the way her career came to an end. “I just thought, ‘Well this is not the way I wanted to end my career, but this is the way it’s ending.’ … I just hated the way the show ended.” She reportedly claimed when speaking about her canceled show, “I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”
A description of The Netflix special reads, “For the first time in six years, Ellen DeGeneres returns to the stage in her new comedy special ‘Ellen Degeneres: For Your Approval.’ The final comedy special of her historic career, Ellen gets personal and reveals what she’s been doing since being ‘kicked out of show business.’ From the mundane world of raising chickens and parallel parking to the harsh reality of becoming a brand-name celebrity, she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities.”
