During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” on Friday, August 30, Louisiana’s Sen. John Kennedy, known for his humor and funny takes, roasted CNN over its joint interview with Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota. They were interviewed by CNN’s Dana Bash.
Speaking to the “Hannity” fill=in host Jason Chaffetz, Sen. Kennedy spoke about the “pandering” he saw in the interview, noting that what he took away from it is that Vice President Kamala Harris has a current set of supposed values that she is pushing, but if they become more unpopular, then she is willing to change them around to make herself become more popular.
That came when the guest host broached the topic of Kamala’s supposed values and policies, asking him if the people of his state believe her and are “buying it.” He asked, “Senator, thanks so much for joining us on ‘Hannity.’ Are you buying it? The people of Louisiana, pretty important energy state, the people of Louisiana buying what she’s selling?”
Responding, Sen. Kennedy said that he knows Vice President Kamala Harris well, a relationship that likely stems from their joint time in the United States Senate, where Vice President Harris served as a senator for California before becoming President Joe Biden’s running mate during the 2020 election cycle.
He added, however, that though he knows her and thinks her nice enough, he went away from her interview entirely unimpressed. He said, “Jason, I listened to the vice president’s interview. I’m biased, I suppose, because I know her well. She’s a nice person, I just don’t agree with her. I had two reactions to her interview, unsurprised, unimpressed.”
Explaining why that was his reaction to Kamala’s interview appearance, he noted that all he heard Kamala say was that she’ll change her values to fit with what the electorate seems to want, which he characterized as pure pandering to potential voters. He added that she’s like a wolf telling the sheep it’ll become a vegan.
In his words: “I’m a pretty simple guy. I like breakfast food and straight answers. I didn’t hear any straight answers from the vice president. What I heard her say basically was I do too have values, and if you don’t like them, I have others. I thought she engaged in tier one level pandering. It was sort of like a wolf promising to be a vegan if the sheep will just vote for it.”
Continuing, Sen. Kennedy said, “Now, now, look, in politics, as in life, and you know this, Jason, talk is cheap. What you do is what you believe. What you do is what you believe. And everything else is just cottage cheese. As I said, I know the vice president well. I’ve served with her for seven and a half years. I know what she will do as president. She is a San Francisco Democrat. She is a card-carrying member of the loon wing of the Democratic Party.”
Concluding, he said, “Well, Republicans are not perfect, but the loon wing of the Democratic Party is crazy. I described Ms. Harris as AOC without the bartending experience, and I think that’s accurate. That’s how she’ll govern and I’ll be glad to talk about specifics in her record. She has one, but you did a pretty good job of it yourself there.”
