Recently, a young man drowned in a lake in Northern Texas just one hour after getting baptized when he tried to save a teenage girl who was struggling in the water. 21-year-old Lincer Lopez gave his life to Christ on Saturday in Lake Waxahachie. However, just an hour later, a young girl began to drown as she struggled to swim.
Lopez jumped into action, taking to the water to rescue her. In his efforts to save the girl, the 21-year-old struggled to remain above water. Eventually, a boater arrived to rescue the two, and the girl was revived via CPR. Unfortunately, Lopez was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Jacob Lopez, Lincer’s uncle, praised his nephew for his heroic actions to save the drowning girl. “He didn’t think twice about rescuing someone else. He didn’t think about the risk that he could die. And he did risk his life to save somebody else’s,” he said. Reportedly, Lopez and the teenage girl were both part of a church group from Garlan, Texas,s who were swimming recreationally in the lake after baptizing people.
The individual in the boat who rescued Lopez and the girl, Jacob Bell, explained that his brother drowned at age three and that he empathizes with the family. “I haven’t really begun to — it hasn’t sunk in yet,” Bell told local reporters. “It’s hard.” Bell further praised Lopez for his bravery. “He was a hero, he had just been baptized and gave his life to the lord, and our family, we pray for his family, and we pray for the little girl’s family. And he was a strong boy, they should be very proud of him.”
The GoFundMe organized for Lopez’ family has raised nearly $40,000 since the incident. “We ask for your help from the community and friends of the Mejía López Family, we need to raise funds to transport his body to Chiapas Mx, his hometown where his loved ones await him,” the fundraiser said. “Parents and other family members, he was the oldest of 7 siblings, if you like to support us to reach our goal,” it added.
