Former President Donald Trump, always able to send some members of the political left into a tailspin with throwaway remarks that many on the conservative side of things agree with, set “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg off with a remark about what’s going on in America. This time, it was a remark to TIME about wokism in America leading to what he referred to as “anti-white” racism and sentiment inside the US.
That came after Trump completed an April interview with TIME magazine and then followed it up with an extra phone call conversation, during which he spoke about the problem of massive “woke-ism” on America’s college campuses and its impact on American culture and education, along with how “anti-white” sentiment is rising in America.
Specifically, Trump told TIME, “If you look at the Biden Administration, they’re sort of against anybody depending on certain views. They’re against Catholics. They’re against a lot of different people. They actually don’t even know what they’re against, but they’re against a lot. But no, I think there is a definite anti-white feeling in this country and that can’t be allowed either.”
That came after he was asked by TIME about the woke issue and anti-white racism, with the interviewer asking, “So you have spoken a lot about ‘woke-ism’ on college campuses. Polls show a majority of your supporters have expressed the belief that anti-white racism now represents a greater problem in the country than anti-Black racism. Do you agree?”
Trump also said, in response to the same question, “I don’t think it would be a very tough thing to address, frankly,” Trump says. “But I think the laws are very unfair right now. And education is being very unfair, and it’s being stifled. But I don’t think it’s going to be a big problem at all. But if you look right now, there’s absolutely a bias against white [people] and that’s a problem.”
It was Trump’s answer, in which he said there is an “anti-white feeling” that set Whoopi off and caused her to meltdown. She began the discussion of it by saying his comment “enraged her,” saying, “This is my favorite. And I’m going to tell you before I say it that it enraged me. ‘There is a definite anti-white feeling in the country right now.'” Joy Behar groaned, “Oh, please.” Whoopi snapped, “That’s what he said.”
After she introduced the subject by quoting from the interview and getting Behar riled up, Goldbert attacked Trump and snapped that no Trump family member was hanged, exclaiming, “Nobody in your family was hung!” That appeared to be a reference to the horrific lynchings of African Americans in the post-US Civil War era.
Then, continuing, she claimed that it was offensive for Trump to suggest that there is an anti-white racism issue in America because of past atrocities and amounts of violence perpetrated against African Americans. She snapped, “Nobody in your family was chased because of the color of their skin. How dare you? There’s no anti-white issue here.” She added, “You are perpetrating anti-humanist issues here.”
