Independent presidential candidate Cornel West recently called out the Democratic Party for attempting to bribe him into dropping out of the 2024 race. According to West’s comments in a recent interview, high-ranking Democrats approached him with the proposal of dropping out of the race and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign in reward of positions and resources.
However, West, who has consistently criticized the Democratic establishment, refused to take the offer. “A number of them reached out just saying I need to get on the bandwagon,” he said. West noted that they painted the situation as a “historic moment” for a Black woman to become president. Despite the case they tried to make, West was not convinced.
“You can offer resources or position or what have you—that’s not what I’m all about,” the independent candidate added. “That’s not the game I play… I’ve got to hold on to some integrity and honesty,” he continued, emphasizing his prioritization principles over the short-term benefits of the proposed bribery from the Democrats.
Further slamming the Democrats, West said, “The Democratic Party is revealing itself even in this moment of frenzy as just so hypocritical,” while blasting the left for failing to adequately address major issues such as poverty, mass incarceration, and police brutality. “We haven’t even got to Haiti and Sudan and Congo yet,” the activist added.
West echoed a widespread sentiment about the irony of the Democratic Party’s fight to save democracy and the seeming undemocratic actions they are simultaneously taking, such as attempting to prevent independent candidates from appearing on the ballot. “Their big theme is democracy, yet they, Jill Stein, even RFK—all they are doing is trying to stop people from having more choices,” he said.
Regardless of the attempts by the Democratic Party to hinder his campaign, West refuses to back down. He maintains that he will “tell certain truths.” He stressed, “You don’t fight fascism with more lies and crimes.” West criticized those on the left whose sole mission is to defeat Trump. “Sooner or later, the fascism will take over if you don’t get at the roots of it.”
The American Tribune recently reported on similar criticism toward the Democratic Party from former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Sounding off on the Democratic National Committee (DNC), he said the party “installed a candidate who was so unpopular with voters that she dropped out in 2020 without winning a single delegate.” He claimed that the DNC did so after “a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Biden.”

Kennedy further slammed the recent Democratic National Convention in Chicago, stating, “Instead of showing us her substance and character, the DNC and its media organs engineered a surge of popularity for Vice President Harris based on—nothing.” RFK Jr. suggested that since the Democrats have nothing substantive to discuss about their platform, they have relied on bashing former President Trump.
