Speaking during a Sunday, August 25 interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” about the sort of rhetoric spewed at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Sen. Lindsey Graham argued that the DNC became a cesspool of “hate” while ridiculously attempting to frame VP and 2024 Democratic nominee Kamala Harris as a source of “joy.”
Sen. Graham’s comment came when “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper asked about the large amounts of fundraising that the Democrats have raised in recent weeks, particularly in the time after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and VP Kamala Harris became the nominee, breathing new life into the Democrats.
Sen. Graham sounded off in response, saying that the DNC in Chicago was a “hate fest.” In his words: “If you’re a Republican, you saw a hate fest. You saw a hate fest full of insults. And Donald Trump said to Barack Obama, you’re a nice man after President Obama insulted and jabbed President Trump continuously. It was designed to draw him into an exchange of insults. It was light on policy, heavy on insults.”
Continuing. Sen. Graham said that he has suggested that former President Trump avoid the exchange of insults and instead focus on policy, which is the area in which he has a significant advantage and can win the election. He said, “So I told President Trump then and now, you’re going to win this thing if you focus on policy.”
Explaining why he sees former President Trump as being able to win policy, Sen. Graham noted that prices and mortgage rates are up. He said, “Americans are not joyful when they go to the gas station and fill up their car. They’re not joyful when they make their mortgage payment. They’re not joyful when they go to the grocery store. People are hurting.”
On that same note, Sen. Graham argued that former President Trump left the country in a great state, at least in terms of prices and border security. He said, “And this whole joy lovefest doesn’t exist in the real world. Gas was $1.87 a gallon when President Trump left office. We had the most secure border in the last 40 years. Inflation was down, not up, and the world was not on fire.”
He then returned to the point that thanks to how things have gone under the Biden-Harris Administration, Americans are quite other than “joyful” about the state of the country. He said, “So, 60 percent of Americans are not joyful. They believe their country is going in the wrong direction. And I think President Trump offers the best solution to change the trajectory of the country.”
Concluding, Sen. Graham argued that Kamala won’t come up with “new policies” and instead just wants to push the same sort of policies the Biden-Harris Administration is known for. He said, “And, finally, if you’re waiting on Kamala Harris to come up with new policies, you’re going to die of waiting, because she will continue what they have been doing for the last four years.”
